This position requires close coordination with drivers, workshop personnel, customers, and management, as well as leadership of junior fleet controllers.Key ResponsibilitiesFleet Operations & ControlPlan, coordinate, and monitor daily fleet movementsAllocate vehicles and drivers according to operational requirements, load specifications, and legal limitsMonitor vehicle tracking systems and respond proactively to delays or incidentsMaximise fleet utilisation while minimising downtime and empty kilometresDriver ManagementManage driver schedules, routes, and shiftsEnsure compliance with road traffic laws, driving hours, and rest periodsHandle driver incidents, breakdowns, and disciplinary matters in conjunction with managementConduct driver briefings and performance monitoringLegal Compliance & SafetyEnsure compliance with all transport legislation, permits, and licensing requirementsMonitor vehicle roadworthiness, PDPs, permits, and insurance documentationInvestigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and compile reportsPromote and enforce a strong safety cultureFleet & Workshop CoordinationCoordinate preventive maintenance, servicing, and repairs with the workshopMonitor defect reports and ensure timeous repairsArrange breakdown recovery and replacement vehicles when requiredTrack maintenance-related downtime and vehicle availabilityCost Control & Performance MonitoringMonitor fuel consumption, tyre usage, and maintenance costsIdentify inefficiencies and implement cost-saving measuresTrack KPIs such as fuel economy, delivery performance, and breakdown frequencyCompile daily, weekly, and monthly operational reportsCustomer & Internal CommunicationCommunicate delivery status and delays to customersResolve operational issues professionally and efficientlyLiaise with internal departments including logistics, warehouse, and managementLeadership & AdministrationSupervise and mentor junior fleet controllersMaintain accurate operational records and documentationAssist with internal and external auditsContribute to continuous improvement initiativesMinimum RequirementsGrade 12 (Matric)Diploma or Certificate in Transport Management or Logistics (advantageous)Minimum of 5
