Notes
Applicants should be comfortable working at heights and will have to complete a Working at Heights course during the training period. Preference will be given to individuals with previous SANAP experience. Successful applicants will spend a few months in Hermanus from 1 June 2022 for training, and then more than a full year (Dec 2022 to Feb 2024) in Antarctica. * To help shape our design system to deliver better customer experiences. They will contribute to the look, feel, and interaction of our entire online product experience by defining the foundations of our software for consumers, partners and merchants.
* Will work with both Brand and Product Design teams to develop and evolve our product design language and establish robust specifications and guidelines for implementation.
* Guide a team in collaborating with multi-skilled Squads that includes UX Designers, UI Designers, Copywriters and Front-end Developers to deliver Design System components according to Agile Processes.
* Responsible for the continual development, management and safeguarding of the companys Design System. Their purpose being to help shape the design system to help other designers do their best work.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* Matric certificate (or equivalent)
* Degree, diploma or certification in a career-relevant field of study
* 7+ years of experience as a Design Systems or Product Designer at a digital product company, contributing to or leading the design and visual execution of product experiences
* Preference given to candidates showcasing a strong portfolio of design systems work projects
* Background in User Experience Design, Interaction Design, User Interface Design and Brand Design
* Expertise with Sketch, InVision, Figma, Adobe (and other design tools)
* Up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends
* Background in working with both Brand and Product Design teams to develop and evolve product design language and establish robust specifications and guidelines for implementation
* Training and mentoring younger product designers
* Having worked in a medium to large organisation is a bonus
* Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
* Experience in managing multiple projects, with competing resources and priorities
* Managing and supervising staff
POSITION OUTPUTS
Design System Management:
* Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards
* Define the design principles and patterns that underpin all of the companys products
* Provide guidelines and documentation that connects and resonates with the teams using the companys design systems
* Work with Product Designers, Software Engineers, and Design Technologists to develop and ship the system
* Write documentation and guidelines on how and why components, styles, and patterns are applied in code and design
* Articulate design decisions applied to experience design, brand design, product design and engineering
* Proactively ensure continuous delivery of design system components and iterative enhancements
* Collaborate with UX Designers, Copywriters and Front-end Developers to help shape the Design System
* Provide pixel-perfect static and interactive mock-ups
