The Role
We’re looking for a dedicated Chef to lead the kitchen at our deli in Somerset West. This role is hands-on and holistic — from planning and prep to service and systems. You’ll manage a small kitchen team, work closely with our store and garden, and ensure food quality and consistency while keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day kitchen operations and staff
- Manage prep, service, food presentation, and timing
- Utilize produce from our kitchen garden and reduce waste
- Monitor stock levels, handle ordering, and track expiries
- Ensure hygiene, food safety, and kitchen cleanliness
- Work with the owner to keep menus seasonal, simple, and nourishing
- Maintain a calm and focused kitchen environment
About You
- 2+years experience in a café/deli kitchen or similar environment is preferred.
- Confident managing kitchen staff and systems
- Comfortable working with wholefoods and seasonal ingredients
- A love for food that’s simple, real, and connected to nature
- Able to think on your feet and get food out efficiently during busy periods
- Organized, reliable, and a team player
