A volunteer is sought for a care-taker position on a private nature reserve in the Eastern Cape. Please note that this is a non-paying position so person must be self-sufficient in all respects (including transport ). The reserve is rugged and fairly remote (25km gravel road to nearest very basic shop; 150km from Port Elizabeth). Duties include fence repair; regular foot patrol (rough terrain); water system management (solar boreholes); cactus removal; visitor assistance; some general maintenance and upkeep duties. Generally duties would average 1,5 hour /day (i.e. part-time but care-taker will be expected to reside on the reserve). Accommodation provided is in a basic old house supplied with rain water and borehole. No electricity. Gas cooker and fire. Can cultivate veg and chickens for own use. Looking for suitable nature-loving, honest, responsible person/couple with a positive outlook; physically fit; and problem-solving and practical abilities.
