IT Infrastructure Specialist

ENVIRONMENT:

This role is for an experienced IT Infrastructure Specialist to join a medical technology team. The position is responsible for specifying, building, and maintaining the server infrastructure for a critical, Docker-based medical web application. The engineer will ensure robust, secure, and high-availability operations within the company’s own infrastructure, leveraging a diverse stack of open-source and enterprise technologies in a meaningful healthcare context.

Duties:

• Specify, build, and maintain physical and virtual servers to host a Docker-based medical application stack.
• Ensure system security, performance, and reliability across the entire infrastructure.
• Manage and optimise PostgreSQL databases, ZFS storage systems, and Linux-based environments.
• Automate deployment, configuration, and management tasks using Ansible.
• Configure and maintain HAProxy for load balancing and Mikrotik routers for network management.
• Administer and optimise the VM environment and manage connectivity to major internet exchanges (JINX, NAPAfrica).
• Maintain and support telephony systems using Asterisk.
• Implement and oversee monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery procedures.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in a DevOps, Infrastructure, Cloud, or Security Engineering role.
• Must-have technical proficiency:
  • Advanced Linux administration (Ubuntu focus)
  • Scripting and automation with Bash
  • Configuration management with Ansible
  • Containerisation with Docker
• Strong experience with:
  • PostgreSQL database administration
  • ZFS storage management
  • Load balancing (HAProxy)
  • Networking (Mikrotik routers)
  • Telephony systems (Asterisk)
• Proven ability to design, build, and secure on-premises infrastructure.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to system reliability.
• Fluent proficiency in English.
