Operational Accountant

We are seeking a switched-on, detail-oriented Operational Accountant to manage the full financial function for our robust operations in the Mining, Engineering, and Manufacturing sectors. This isn't just about crunching numbers from a distance; you'll be on the ground, connecting the financials directly to the operational heartbeat of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage the full financial function, including GL, AP, AR, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and detailed variance analysis to monitor operational performance.
• Ensure rigorous financial controls and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate closely with the production and engineering teams to bridge the gap between finance and operations.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

• Education:
  • A BCom Degree is essential, and completed articles are highly preferred.
• Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years of post-articles experience, ideally within the Mining, Engineering, or Manufacturing industries.
  • Proven experience in a role encompassing the full financial function.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in relevant accounting software and MS Excel.
  • A pragmatic, proactive approach and the ability to work independently in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
• Skills / Technical Competencies:
  • Full financial function management, financial reporting (IFRS/GAAP), GL management, complex reconciliations, budgeting & forecasting, and costing methods.
  • Understanding of industry-specific cost drivers, bridging finance/operations gap, internal controls, data analysis & interpretation for operational insights.
  • Advanced MS Excel, experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP and Sage Pastel), and familiarity with BI tools (Power BI a plus).
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking, effective communication with diverse teams, adaptability, and high integrity.
