FARM MANAGER – CROP PRODUCTIONElstelm Farming (Pty) Ltd, an
established and growing profitable dairy farming enterprise, is located 15 km
from Swellendam in an exceptionally beautiful area along the Langeberg
Mountains, with the Buffeljags River flowing through the farm. The operation
has been successfully run for more than 15 years and currently milks
approximately 1,400 Jersey cows daily. Swellendam is renowned for its rich history, excellent
infrastructure, beautiful nature and strong agricultural sector. The town
offers a peaceful and safe rural lifestyle with good schools, medical
facilities and shops.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The position reports to the General Farm Manager and plays
a key role within a professional management and production team. The successful
candidate will be responsible for the planning, production and management of
the feed crops as well as the mechanical activities involved in the production
and feeding of the dairy herd.
Feed crop production and management:
· Production and management of
crops (planted pasture, irrigation and non-irrigated land) including soil
preparation, plant, irrigation, fertilisation, grazing and ensiling.
· Grazing and feeding of herd:
·
Ensure the mixing and
preparation of fodder and feeding of the herd is effectively applied.
·
Manage the quality, storage
conditions and stock levels of the fodder.
· Manage planted pastures
optimally.
Staff management and related activities:
·
Manage staff that is
involved with crop production.
· Management and
implementation of projects relevant to crop production for example new
irrigation systems.
·
REQUIREMENTS
An
agriculture-related qualification will be an advantage.Minimum of 4 years’ experience in crop production of pasture and feed systems within a dairy farming environment.Good knowledge of irrigation systems.Practical knowledge of animal nutrition and dairy herd management.Experience
in staff management.Practical
knowledge of farm machinery and maintenance.Experience

This position forms part of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP), Phase 11.The post is strategically aligned with national scarce skills priorities and will support the development and implementation of a new Honours programme in Medical Physics, planned for launch in 2028Core PurposeThe core purpose of this post is to develop academic and strategic leadership capacity within the Department of Physics, specifically in the fields of Radiation and Medical Physics. The incumbent will:Perform academic duties while progressively developing the capacity to lead, coordinate, and manage programmes in Radiation and Medical Physics.Provide intellectual and strategic leadership in the design, development, and implementation of a professionally aligned Medical Physics Honours programme that meets national accreditation and industry standards.Contribute meaningfully to teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, and curriculum transformation within a strategically expanding Department of Physics, with a view to long-term programme sustainability and growth.KEY PERFORMANCE AREASTeach Radiation Physics to Radiography students and foundational Physics to Nursing students, developing academic and pedagogical expertise.Contribute to the development and presentation of modules in the Medical Physics Honours programme, with mentorship toward future coordination and leadership.Participate in curriculum development aligned with HPCSA pathways and accreditation standards, building capacity for programme leadership.Support interdisciplinary collaboration with Health Sciences, Engineering, CHRTEM, and the NMU Medical School.Engage in academic administration and transformation initiatives, progressively developing governance and leadership capacity within the Department.CORE COMPETENCIESStrong knowledge of radiation physics, medical imaging, radiation protection, and applied physics principles relevant to healthcare and clinical settings.Excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for students, and the ability to facilitate learning using modern teaching methods and technology.Competence in data analysis, simulation, and relevant computational tools for research and teaching.Evidence of successful experimental or applied research in Medical or Radiation Physics.REQUIREMENT
