Key Responsibilities:
- First-Line Hardware Support:
- Act as the first point of escalation for diagnosing and resolving hardware faults
- Perform hands-on repairs, including wiring, soldering, component replacement, and board-level fixes
- Maintain, calibrate, and service mechatronic systems to minimise downtime
- Log support tickets, document fault analysis, and maintain accurate repair records
- Escalate complex or systemic issues with clear technical assessments
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on hardware systems
- Design & Development:
- Assist with the design, assembly, and testing of hardware prototypes
- Create and modify components using 3D CAD tools, such as OnShape, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot 3D printers for rapid prototyping
- Integrate and program microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino and Raspberry Pi) for custom hardware solutions
- Test, refine, and iterate on prototypes to meet functional and performance requirements
- Collaborate closely with the engineering team by contributing ideas and executing design strategies
Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, IT, or a related discipline
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience (hobby or personal projects may supplement but not replace formal experience)
- 3D CAD & Printing: Solid experience in 3D CAD modelling and practical use of 3D printers
- Microcontrollers: Working familiarity with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and basic coding for hardware integration
- Electronics Assembly: Strong hands-on skills in wiring, soldering, PCB-level work, and the use of standard hand tools
- Problem Solving: Demonstrated maker mentality with a passion for building, experimenting, and improving systems
- Work Style: Able to work independently while remaining receptive to mentorship and collaborative input
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Background in a start-up, R&D, or rapid prototyping environment
- Personal or professional involvement in electronics, robotics, or DIY automation projects
- Basic IT skills to support hardware-software interaction and embedded systems
- Familiarity with version control tools (e.g. Git) or technical documentation practices
