The company operates within the plastic industry and maintains a site-specific food safety system certification. The business focuses on the manufacture and repair of moulds and related components through a dedicated toolroom and machine shop.
The Role: Senior Toolmaker (Plastic Industry)
The purpose of this role is to perform repairs and maintenance on moulds and to manufacture and repair engineering components and other related items. It contributes to the business by ensuring toolroom machinery is operated efficiently and safely to produce parts required by the company. The main focus areas include fault finding on moulds, mentoring apprentices, and ensuring all work conforms to health, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate 10-15 years experience or more within the manufacturing industry as a Toolmaker.
- Operate all toolroom machinery efficiently to produce and maintain moulds and related components.
- Manufacture and repair moulds with precision from interpreted drawings and provide input on mould design.
- Carry out fault finding and troubleshooting on moulds and assess the condition of tooling returning from production.
- Train and mentor Tool, Jig and Die apprentices.
- Maintain stock of machining and cutting tools and ensure the machine shop remains organized and safe.
- Comply with food safety principles, Good Manufacturing Practices, and health and safety requirements.
- Liaise with management regarding production discrepancies and work to prioritized schedules.
About You
- Minimum 10-15 years experience or more within the manufacturing industry in the position of Toolmaker.
- Trade Test Tool Jig and Die Maker (MERSETA).
- Grade 12 and Minimum N2 qualification.
- Extensive knowledge of toolroom equipment.
- Ability to apply quality principles and Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) standards.
- Skills in teamwork, self-management, and interpersonal relationships.
- Capacity to mentor others and set an example for a team.
