Duties
Overseeing Production:
a. Manage all aspects of steel production processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to safety regulations.
- Resource Allocation:
a. Optimize the allocation of resources including manpower, machinery, and materials to meet production targets within budget constraints.
- Quality Control:
a. Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that products meet industry standards and customer specifications.
- Process Improvement:
a. Continuously evaluate and improve production processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
- Inventory Management:
a. Supervise inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to ensure smooth operations and timely delivery.
- Personnel Management:
a. Lead and develop a team of production staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and fostering a culture of safety and teamwork.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
a. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, promoting a safe working environment for all employees.
- Budgeting and Cost Control:
a. Develop and manage budgets for production operations, monitoring expenses and implementing cost-saving initiatives where possible.
- Supplier and Vendor Relations:
a. Manage relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment at competitive prices.
- Communication and Coordination:
a. Coordinate with other departments such as sales, logistics, production and maintenance to ensure smooth coordination and alignment of goals.
- Sales and Marketing
a. developing relationships with new and existing clients or customers
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Qualification in Industrial Engineering essential
- At least 10 yrs management experience in manufacturing/steel industry.
- 6 Sigma Certification/experience beneficial.
- Must have financial background.
- Must have sales experience.
- Strong understanding of steel production processes, machinery, and equipment.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is desirable.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve production targets.

What is expected of the successful candidate:To plan, organize and control the production facility of the factory/ plant in order to produce the required quantity products within agreed quality and cost specifications. People Management 10%Achievement of production targets, deliverables and objectives.Production Planning communicate daily with the commercial manager, sales and dispatch planning team to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained.To plan maintenance schedule.To assist with problem solving on breakdowns on the main production line.Ensure safety levels are optimal and good housekeeping in factory.Yard control to plan, organized and control the production facility to produce tiles and fittings of the correct quality and cost at the correct time.Management of stock levels including critical spares and raw materials and ensure procurement procedures are adhered to.Management stock counts and audits with finance and stock/inventory control in system.Manage stock losses and variance tracking, production breakages.Negotiate with all suppliers of both raw material and maintenance spares for the timeous supply of materials at the best possible rate.Maintain good industrial relations, experience within a unionized environment, and adhere to procedures between factory staff and management through the established IR procedures.Labour productivity, efficiencies and unit production costs. SHEQ Management and compliance with ISO 14001 & ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001.Develop and motivate production staff to achieve agreed objectives regarding efficiency, quality, industrial relations, health and safety.Maintain, review and develop the SABS Quality Management.
