This role is suited to a technically strong payroll professional who enjoys hands-on processing, complex problem-solving, and supporting team capability.
The Senior Payroll Specialist will play a key role in delivering end-to-end payroll and billing, managing complex payroll adjustments, ensuring statutory compliance, and acting as a trusted point of contact for payroll queries. The Senior Payroll Specialist will play a key role in delivering end-to-end payroll and billing, managing complex payroll adjustments, ensuring statutory compliance, and acting as a trusted point of contact for payroll queries. The role requires strong systems knowledge, excellent attention to detail, and confidence in working to tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll & Billing Processing
- Perform manual imports of employee, client, and placement data
- Process timesheets and expenses, including reviews, validations, and approvals
- Manage payroll adjustments, recalculations, and advance payments
- Deliver accurate end-to-end payroll and billing in line with SLAs
- Recalculate tax, statutory, and other deductions, including issuing P45s
- Adjust and re-bill invoices, ensuring correct rates, deductions, and margins
- Perform bank transfers and support accurate reconciliation
Reconciliations & Controls
- Complete in-house and margin reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
- Perform Service User Number and BACS file format checks
- Support banking activities, including BACS uploads, invoice uploads, and drawdowns
- Load and manage court orders and associated payments
Compliance & Stakeholder Management
- Process statutory payroll inputs
- Respond to payroll queries from consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Ensure payroll processing meets audit, control, and regulatory requirements
Vendor & Team Support
- Manage Umbrella vendor relationships and payroll-related queries
- Provide day-to-day support and cover for junior payroll team members
- Share knowledge and best practices to support team continuity
Job Experience and Skills Required:
Completed Matric
