Financial Accountant

Our client is a reputable organization in the construction and civil engineering industry, known for its strong governance, quality-driven project delivery, and collaborative culture. Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the full finance function, including financial reporting, management accounting, and compliance
• Prepare and review annual financial statements (AFS) and manage the external audit process
• Deliver accurate and timely monthly management accounts and operational reporting
• Monitor project budgets, cost control, and CAPEX for multiple construction projects
• Maintain oversight of fixed asset registers, construction equipment, and depreciation schedules
• Manage VAT calculations, submissions, and reconciliations
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
• Provide financial analysis and insights to support project profitability and strategic decision-making
• Partner with project and operational teams to optimize cash flow and cost efficiency
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team while strengthening internal controls and governance frameworks

Skills:

• Strong experience with ERP systems used in construction or project-based environments (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
• Advanced Excel and financial reporting skills
• Solid knowledge of IFRS, tax, VAT, and statutory compliance
• Strong analytical ability with high attention to detail
• Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
• Experience implementing and improving financial processes and controls

Minimum Qualifications:

• BCom Accounting (essential).
• CA(SA) or SAIPA articles completed (advantageous).

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years (post-articles) experience (essential).
• Proven experience in the construction, civil engineering, or project-based industry (essential).
• Exposure to project accounting, cost control, and CAPEX-heavy operations (highly beneficial).
