Data Platform Support / Operations Engineer

Company and Job Description:

Our client is a data-driven organisation with a sophisticated cloud-based data platform supporting critical business operations. They are looking for a Data Platform Support / Operations Engineer to take full ownership of the day-to-day stability, support, and performance of their data environment. This 12 month contract role, requires someone who will act as the first line of defence for all platform-related requests, incidents, and data issuesensuring smooth operations while enabling the data engineering team to focus on building and scaling the platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own and manage day-to-day operational support of the data platform, including ticket triage and incident resolution
• Handle Snowflake access requests, role management, and performance-related queries
• Monitor and resolve ETL/ELT pipeline failures, including overdue or failed jobs
• Investigate data quality issues and support dashboard/data discrepancies
• Maintain and improve runbooks for recurring incidents and operational processes
• Identify repetitive issues and collaborate with data engineering teams to automate or permanently resolve them
• Ensure effective communication with stakeholders and maintain clean, up-to-date Jira ticketing practices
• Provide monthly reporting on trends, recurring issues, and platform performance

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education:

• Relevant Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field

Experience:

• Proven experience in data support, data operations, or similar role
• Hands-on experience supporting data platforms in a production environment
• Exposure to incident management, ticketing systems, and operational support queues

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong SQL skills with practical experience in Snowflake (roles, grants, warehouses, performance basics)
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT pipelines, scheduling, dependencies, and monitoring tools
• Ability to troubleshoot data issues across pipelines, datasets, and dashboards
• Comfortable working with BI tools and investigating data discrepancies
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• High ownership mindset with strong triage and problem-solving ability
