The Great Books of the Western World is a landmark 54-volume collection published by Encyclopædia Britannica (founded in 1768 in Edinburgh, Scotland) in 1952, designed to make the core canon of Western thought accessible to the general public. Great Books of the Western World contains 517 works from 130 of the most renowned minds throughout history. The complete set is 54 volumes, most of which contain multiple books. Edited by Mortimer Adler and Robert Hutchins, it features influential works across philosophy, science, literature, and politics.
