Kitchen Manager – Leading Restaurant Group - V&A, Cape Town
A renowned restaurant group is seeking an experienced Kitchen Manager to oversee operations at one of their busiest flagship locations. This is a senior management role focused on leading a large kitchen brigade and driving excellence in food quality, team performance, and operational efficiency.
Role Overview:
As Kitchen Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of 40 kitchen staff, ensuring smooth daily operations, and consistently delivering high standards of food quality and safety. Your focus will be on people management, process improvement, and maintaining a positive, productive kitchen culture. This is a hands-on leadership role, with minimal cooking required.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, train, and motivate a large kitchen team (40+ staff) in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including scheduling, rostering, and team development
  • Drive improvements in food quality, menu execution, and consistency
  • Manage stock control, ordering, inventory, and supplier relationships
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and food hygiene standards
  • Monitor kitchen costs and help optimize profitability
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with senior management and front-of-house teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a senior chef or kitchen manager in a high-volume restaurant
  • Proven track record managing and developing large kitchen teams
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience with stock control, ordering, and supplier management
  • Excellent understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and solve problems quickly
  • Professional, positive attitude and commitment to high standards
  • Must have working rights in South Africa
  • Already based in Cape Town
Salary:
R30,000 – R35,000 per month, depending on experience
