Senior Diesel Mechanic & Fleet controller - Kempto

A national logistics provider (specialising in A-grade warehousing and transport logistics) is looking for an experienced Senior Diesel Mechanic & Fleet controller, a physically fit candidate with excellent attention to lead the maintenance and repair of linehaul and smaller, local vehicles. The primary duties include all servicing and maintenance, performing physical, visual and diagnostic tests to find faults, analysing results and repairing or replacing all vehicles parts including engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components.   The ideal candidate needs to be highly organized and communicate effectively, as they will be expected to maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with Ops for co-ordination of resources.  This position is based in the head office in Pomona, Kempton Park, Gauteng. * Follow a checklist of inspection procedure * Running and analysing various tests on vehicles * Do routine maintenance, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and parts * To carry out routine servicing * Attending to Breakdowns * Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components * To be able to diagnose and repair faults in Diesel engines and Hydraulic systems. * Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems. * Checking vehicle lighting systems. * Test driving vehicles to gauge performance. * Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks. * Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles. * Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist. * Maintaining a parts inventory. * Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop. * Report into and plan with Management for the co-ordination of resources * Maintain tools and environment * Travel to branches as necessary * Ensure all vehicles on the road meet all necessary Road Traffic Regulations * Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering * ASE Diesel Certification * Fitter / Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate * Experience in 3PL environment * Knowledge of Road Traffic Act * Able to work afterhours and weekends as required * Demonstrate initiative and creative problem-solving skills * Good fault finding, electronic diagnostic skills * Valid driver's license- code 10 and 14 * Aptitude for mathematics and science. * Advanced knowledge of diesel engine components. * Good IT and diagnostic skills. * Physically fit and able to lift to 150 pounds. * Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools * Microsoft Word and Excel skills * Attention to detail. * Good interpersonal skills. * Excellent verbal communication skills. * Good organization skills * Good problem-solving skills * Own transport is essential * Reliable * Hardworking and trustworthy R240 000 - R360 000 p/a based on candidates’ experience * Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering * ASE Diesel
