Job Advertisement: Turner / Lathe Machinist (Tool Maintenance) Location: Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal Industry: Plastic Extrusion Manufacturing A well-established plastic extrusion manufacturing company based in Hammarsdale is seeking a skilled Turner / Lathe Machinist to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and refurbishment of extrusion tooling, ensuring production equipment remains in optimal condition. Key Responsibilities Operating lathe machines to repair and maintain extrusion toolingPolishing and refurbishing die heads, calibrators, mandrels and related toolingCleaning and servicing tooling after production runsLight machining and modification of tooling componentsInspecting tooling for wear, damage, or dimensional issuesAssisting with tool setup preparation for productionMaintaining a clean and organised tool roomWorking closely with the production and maintenance teams Minimum Requirements Proven experience and a qualification as a Turner / Lathe MachinistAbility to operate manual lathesExperience with precision polishing and finishing of metal componentsAbility to read basic mechanical drawings and measurementsGood understanding of tolerances and precision machiningStrong attention to detail and workmanshipReliable, responsible, and able to work independently Advantageous (but not essential) Experience working with plastic extrusion toolingExperience with mild and stainless steel toolingBasic mechanical fitting experience Personal Attributes Strong work ethicGood problem-solving abilityHigh level of attention to detailAbility to work under pressure when production requires urgent tooling repairs Salary Market related and based on experience.
