Hyundai's refreshed Venue is in town and here's all you need to know about the funky top-seller

The Hyundai Venue compact SUV was first launched locally in December 2019 and has achieved monumental sales success, selling 17 162 units since then.

Customers can choose from three specification levels - the entry-level Motion, followed by the mid-specced Fluid and range-topping N Line, each with its specifications.

The refreshed model now features a redesigned front grille, taillights, and daytime running lights (Fluid and N-Line versions only). The 1.2 Motion and 1.0 Turbo Motion models come equipped with 15 and 16-inch steel wheels, respectively, while Fluid and N Line models ship standard with 16-inch alloy wheels.

Engine options

There are two (petrol) engines on offer.

A naturally aspirated 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with outputs of 61kW and 115Nm. The engine is used in the Motion variant and is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission, and Hyundai claims a fuel consumption figure of 6.5-litres/100km.

A turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine that delivers 88kW and 172Nm maximum torque, coupled with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is used in the Motion, Fluid, and N Line variants. Hyundai claims fuel consumption figures of 6.5-litres/100km for the manual and 6.9-litres/100km for the DCT version.

For Motion and Fluid variants, there are six body colour options to choose from (Typhoon Silver, Polar White, Titan Grey, Phantom Black, Fiery Red, and Denim Blue), while the N Line derivative offers customers a choice between three two-tone colour schemes (Polar White with a black roof; Shadow Grey with a black roof; or Nicobar Blue with a black roof).

Safety and convenience

Onboard functionality is taken care of by an 8-inch infotainment display that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible. In front of the driver is a 4.2-inch LCD display, and various options can be controlled by a leather-wrapped steering wheel (Fluid and N Line versions). There are also USB and USB-C ports.

Just like the pre-facelifted model, this one boasts a comprehensive safety package that includes: six airbags (Fluid and N Line only). The Motion derivative comes with two airbags – driver and passenger. Electronic Stability Control and ABS braking is a standard feature in all 1.0 Turbo Motion, Fluid, and N Line derivatives, along with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. All 1.0 Motion, Fluid, and N Line variants also come with Hill Start Assist Control.
