BMW's new 338kW M2 is finally here and will be coming to SA in 2023

It's been a long time coming, but the day has arrived when the latest iteration of BMW's popular M2 coupe has finally been unveiled.

The model is a continuation of the brand's traditional sports coupe that began in 1973 with the arrival of the 2002 turbo and builds on the success of its predecessor, which notched up nearly 60 000 sales worldwide.

The M2 is made distinct from the M240i with a redesigned bumper, frameless kidney grill, spoiler lip on the boot lid, and two pairs of exhaust tailpipes. In terms of wheels, BMW opted for dual sizes, with the M2 wearing 19-inch light-alloy wheels at the front and beefier 20-inch ones at the rear. There's also a total of five exterior paint finishes on offer.

Power and performance

Engine: Turbocharged straight-six 3.0-litre

The interior is decked with a 12.3-inch info display and a 14.9-inch curved display, complete with the latest-generation iDrive system. Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is also included. Sport seats come as standard, while lightweight M Carbon bucket seats are also available as an optional extra.

Standard comfort and safety features include three-zone automatic climate control, BMW Live Cockpit Plus complete with BMW Maps navigation system, Front Collision Warning, Speed Limit Display, Lane Departure Warning, and Park Distance Control.

The driver also has a choice of various driver modes (Road, Sport, and Track).
