Job Purpose
To prepare and serve beverages to guests in a professional, efficient, and friendly manner, ensuring a high standard of service and guest satisfaction while maintaining hygiene, safety, and stock control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Beverage Preparation & Service
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to standard recipes
- Mix cocktails, pour wines, and serve beers correctly
- Ensure consistency in drink quality and presentation
- Engage with guests and provide recommendations
- Guest Service
- Deliver excellent customer service at all times
- Build rapport with guests and enhance their experience
- Handle guest queries and complaints professionally
- Maintain a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor
- Bar Operations
- Set up and maintain a clean, organised bar area
- Ensure all bar equipment is in good working condition
- Adhere to opening and closing procedures
- Assist with stock takes and inventory control
- Stock Control
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages
- Minimise wastage and prevent losses
- Ensure proper storage of beverages
- Follow stock rotation (FIFO principles)
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with South African liquor laws and licensing regulations
- Ensure responsible service of alcohol
- Maintain hygiene standards in line with health regulations
- Follow workplace safety procedures
- Cash Handling
- Process payments accurately (cash, card, POS systems)
- Maintain correct cash float and reconcile at end of shift
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- Bartending certification (advantageous)
- 13 years experience as a bartender in hospitality
- Experience in hotels, lodges, or high-end restaurants preferred
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of cocktails, wines, spirits, and beverages
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail and presentation
- Good numeracy and cash-handling skills
