Mechanical Design Engineer

The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design of mineral processing equipment and modular plant layouts, working within a multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver projects from concept through to manufacturing and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Design mineral processing equipment and plant components using 3D CAD software
• Develop detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials
• Perform engineering calculations including structural, mechanical, and material selection
• Collaborate with process engineers to translate process requirements into mechanical designs
• Support manufacturing teams with technical queries during fabrication
• Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards
• Contribute to the refinement of modular plant design methodologies to reduce costs and project timelines
• Liaise with suppliers regarding bought-out components and specifications
• Assist with site support during construction and commissioning when required
• Maintain accurate project documentation and revision control

Qualifications & Experience

• B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Minimum 35 years of experience in mechanical design within heavy industry, mining equipment, or mineral processing
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication, structural design, and manufacturing processes
• Experience with design codes and standards (SANS, ASME, ISO, etc.)
• Registration with ECSA as a Candidate or Professional Engineer is advantageous
