Automation Technician
Reason for Reporting
Position Overview:
As an Automation Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a variety of automated systems. This role is best suited for a technically skilled individual who has experience working with gate motors, roller shutter systems, automated glass doors, access control systems, and who also possesses welding capabilities. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel between sites is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain:
- Gate motors (sliding and swing)
- Roller shutter motors and controllers
- Glass door automation systems (including sensors and actuators)
- Access control systems (keypads, card readers, biometric systems)
- Perform welding and basic metalwork as part of installations and supports
- Conduct system testing and commissioning to ensure operational efficiency
- Diagnose and repair faults on automated systems and mechanical components
- Ensure all installations meet quality, safety, and compliance standards
- Provide on-site support and maintenance as required
- Accurately complete job cards, reports, and handover documentation
- Collaborate with team members, clients, and project managers to ensure successful project delivery
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric certificate or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in automation installations
- Solid understanding of wiring diagrams, schematics, and motor functions
- Proficient in welding (steel and/or aluminium)
- Must have a Valid South African driver’s license
- Sound knowledge of health and safety practices in the field
- Excellent troubleshooting and fault-finding abilities
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, and in a team environment
- Good interpersonal skills and client service orientation
Desirable Attributes:
- Technical certifications or short courses in automation, electronics, or mechatronics
- Experience with intercoms, CCTV, or electric fencing systems (advantageous)
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours when required
- Hands-on, self-driven, and proactive approach to work
