Workshop Manager Steel Profiling Specialist
Join a steel profiling and cutting specialist delivering precision steel components across mining, construction and industrial sectors. Position based in the East Rand and appointed through Hominum.
Role Overview
Were looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead and optimise our steel profiling operations, ensuring quality, efficiency and safety across the workshop.
Key Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor workshop personnel, including training, performance reviews and shift scheduling.
• Oversee steel profiling and cutting processes, enforcing quality control and safety protocols.
• Plan production workflows, allocate resources and monitor progress against deadlines and budgets.
• Implement nesting strategies to optimise material utilisation and reduce waste.
• Interpret and manage technical drawings and blueprints for profiling and cutting accuracy.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs on profiling machinery to minimise downtime.
• Liaise with procurement and engineering teams to forecast material needs and streamline supply chains.
• Prepare and present regular reports on workshop performance, productivity metrics and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

• At least 5 years experience in steel profiling, steel fabrication or a comparable heavy-manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience working in a profiling company and managing profiling operations.
• Demonstrated success in workshop, production or operations management.
• Practical expertise with nesting software and profiling technologies.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
• In-depth knowledge of steel profiling technologies, CNC cutting equipment and associated tooling.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Technical qualification in metallurgy, fabrication or mechanical engineering is advantageous.

Remuneration and Benefits

• Monthly CTC of R50 000 to R80 000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Minimum Requirements:

• 2-3 years' experience as a Qualified Petrol Vehicle Technician within the Automotive Industry

• Dealership experience is a requirement

Tasks will include

• Travel to and from site as required (overtime, including weekend work, breakdowns and sleep over as necessary)
• Conduct Rope Condition Monitoring Tests
• Record all results and recommendation on winder hoist condition

Qualification and experience

• Technical trade qualification with N5 or T3
• SAQCC level 1 & 2 in RCA as per SANS 10293 (or as trainee actively working towards achieving it)
• 3 Years post qualification and 3 years in in hoist rope condition monitoring (or as trainee minimum 2 Years post qualification)
• Strong in Problem Solving
• Computer Literacy (Word, Excel & Outlook)
• OHSACT, MHSACT compliance
• Strong Leadership and Communication skills (English)
• Mine winder electrical or mechanical experience will be beneficial

Minimum Requirements:

• Should have a minimum of 2 to 4 years experience as a Dealership New Vehicle Sales Executive within the Automotive Industry
• A Valid Drivers Licence is required
• Grade 12 Qualification essential
• Must have a stable track record

The Quality Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the quality assurance systems and processes for an automotive inspection, rework, and sorting services company. This role ensures that all operations meet customer specifications, industry standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001), and internal quality objectives. The Quality Manager also leads root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and continuous improvement initiatives to deliver exceptional service quality to customers.

Responsibility

Quality Assurance & Control

• Establish and maintain QA/QC processes for inspection, rework, and sorting activities.
• Ensure compliance with customer requirements, work instructions, control plans, and industry standards.
• Review and approve inspection and rework procedures for accuracy and effectiveness.
• Monitor inspection results and provide feedback to team leads and supervisors.

Team Leadership & Training

• Supervise and train quality inspectors, auditors, and team leaders on quality standards, visual aids, defect recognition, and measurement tools.
• Lead by example in promoting a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Customer & Supplier Interaction

• Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters with customers and suppliers.
• Handle customer complaints and ensure proper root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa).
• Conduct periodic quality reviews with clients and internal teams.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain quality documentation including control plans, inspection records, audit findings, and training logs.

Process Improvement

• Analyze defect trends and initiate continuous improvement projects to reduce rework and scrap.

Job Requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Quality, Engineering, or related technical field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a quality role within the automotive industry.
Experience in inspection, rework, or containment services is strongly preferred.

Technical Skills
Strong understanding of automotive quality standards (IATF 16949, ISO 9001).
Proficient in quality tools: 8D, FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, SPC, MSA, 5 Why, P
