Northern Cape is easily the largest and more sparsely populated region of South Africa. With only a little over a million inhabitants, spread across an area of land the size of Germany, there are large distances between towns in the region. As such, you should take this into account when purchasing used cars in Northern Cape.
As well as being huge in size and lacking in large settlements, the province is dominated by hilly and mountainous terrain in the southern and western areas. The central region is generally flat, but is also very sparsely populated and is interspersed with salt pans. With such large and empty areas of dusty savannah, it is essential to consider what you will be primarily using your vehicle for when buying secondhand cars in Northern Cape. Reliability and petrol consumption are both key concerns, as is ample storage space for taking safety equipment and stores for long or possibly hazardous journeys between inhabited areas.
Rugged and hard wearing vehicles are particularly common in Northern Cape as a result of the region's terrain. Understandably, Toyota is a popular vehicle of choice in the area, with the Japanese brand enjoying a hard-won reputation for producing vehicles that will really stand the test of time and rarely suffer from mechanical failure. Among the most popular choices is the Toyota Hilux hybrid, which blends the looks and style of an ordinary five-seater family sedan with a small flatbed back for carrying extra stores or equipment. Volkswagen also enjoy a reputation for producing rugged vehicles, especially its diesel variant vehicles, and it is not uncommon to see TDI versions of Volkswagen's signature Polo and Golf vehicles around the province. Land Rover and Jeep are also popular choices for obvious reasons, combining luxury seamlessly with its famous reliability and ample space for carrying safety stores and spares
With vast spaces separating many of the towns and cities in North Cape, large and reliable diesel vehicles are the best choice when buying used cars in Northern Cape. Thanks to the fact that diesel engines last much longer than petrol variants, and the weather is arid in the region, there is a very large secondhand market in the region, with reliable vehicles being available from most of the largest manufacturers year round.
