One day you'll wake up and there wont't be any more time to sail, row or motor around and explore. Do it now . . .Note from the designer Sam Devlin:Sam took his inspiration for this little workboat from the pangas he admired on his frequent visits to Mexico. These remarkably seaworthy skiffs had generous freeboard to fight back the chop that came up with the afternoon winds and were narrow for greater efficiency and speed under the power of modest outboards. The Candlefish 13 is diminutive version of the panga weight of 165 lbs.The Candlefish 13 is a versatile small fishing boat. Originally designed to be a cartoppable fishing skiff, she has also proven to be an excellent yacht tender. This is a big round-bottomed 13-footer, and she’ll handle a 5-20 hp outboard. The thwarts, benches, and bulkheads reinforce the hull and leave the interior free of structural clutter. There’s no shortage of firm unobstructed footing. The cockpit sole is fairly flat, so to keep any water that gathers there from splashing underfoot it’s covered with removable honeycomb rubber mats. The bottom has a keel running aft from the stem and ending about 30 cm shy of the transom. At the aft half of the hull there are bilge keels at the sides, protected, like the keel, by brass caps. Two wedges, each about 25 cm wide, serve as fixed trim tabs and keep the boat from hobbyhorsing with a light load aboard. With a 20-hp Yamaha four-stroke outboard powering the Candlefish, she gets up and a plane with one person aboard in about 4.5 seconds and then with the throttle wide open flies along at 20½ knots. With two of us aboard, the Candlefish 13 topped out at just over 17 knots. She tracks well at all speeds and banks quickly and powerfully into turns: I quickly learned to use a soft touch on the tiller. A slight angling of the tiller sets the inside chine down, and the Candlefish carves smartly around. The Candlefish maintains a level trim and good visibility at low speeds thanks to the centrally located cargo compartment and the fixed thwart that keeps the helmsman well forward of the tiller. The bow rises only briefly as she climbs up on a plane, and the skiff levels right out again. We’ll use British Standard 1088 Marine Grade Plywood, CNCed 9mm for the hull and 18mm for the bulkheads. The exterior is sheathed with Fibre glass fabric and epoxy. The lumber that goes into the gunwales, seat edges, keels, breasthook and knees is either American prime Ash or purpleheart.

A “teardrop” trailer is a small camper. The name comes from the streamlined shape, and the type dates back at least to the 1930’s. As cars get smaller, storage space more expensive, and recreational time more precious, a new appreciation is growing for the efficiency of really good teardrop campers.A fan of small boats, small cars, and small houses, we found the concept of a teardrop camper irresistible. “Think of it as a big step up from a tent in terms of comfort and utility. But it’s so compact and light that I could tow it behind a small car 300 Kg.The result is the 1.5 x 2.4m teardrop you see here, and it’s a lot more elegant than the common “canned ham” teardrop designs. Drawn around a 1.5 x 2m air mattress, this little camper is small on the outside but surprisingly roomy on the inside. Two adults up to 6’6” (198cm) can stretch out in great luxury. Large doors on both sides and a 300 mm square hatch on the roof provide easy access and copious ventilation. There’s room for a 12-volt electrical system to run lights, fans, a stereo, and charging plugs for devices. We also have fitted 220 v access.A large galley (kitchen) occupies the locker in the rear of the trailer. While this space could be customised in many different ways. In the photos is a camper we built with 220v Microwave and Snappycheff. For car-camping, this will be a giant improvement over a tent. No fooling around setting up a tent: arrive at destination. Park. Open door. Climb in. Go to sleep. We manufacture the Teardrop cover, nosecone cover and mattress in-house its optional.

“PocketShip” is a small cruising sailboat of refined model, meant to sail well on all points, provide dry camping accommodations for two adults, and tow behind a four-cylinder car. More than 60 are sailing or under construction on six continents.Interior arrangements are ample, we think bigger and more comfortable than anything else this size, without compromising Pocketship’s looks and performance. Two adults may sleep below or wait out a rain shower, and a portable head stows beneath the cockpit, sliding forward into the cuddy for use. The enclosed area of the cabin is identical to an average four-man tent, but drier, more private, and more secure.PocketShip is stiff and fast and tacks through 90 degrees. The helm is light and the boat will spin nearly in its own length in both light and heavy air and with a variety of sail combinations.“Go simple, and if that appeals to you then there is no more simple way to cruise than this design from John C. Harris. ...This is one dandy looking little boat. It’s shapely, with lots of sheer, a pugnacious bow profile and sweet overall hull lines.” Robert H. A long, sleek hull that is fast and responsive. Taking inspiration from the Inuit kayaks of Greenland, the Night Heron has an elegant overhanging bow and stern that slices through the water and rises easily over waves and chop.At 20" wide this is a narrow boat, however it is not scary to paddle. Even novice paddlers quickly get comfortable. The boat tracks well with good balance and is quite fast. It is very easy to roll and perform various braces. This S&G version is at home out on the open water and exploring the shores of distant islands. As drawn, it has the exact same profile shape of the lower deck version of the strip-built Night Heron. As built it tends to track a little more stiffly due to a slight sharper "V" at the stem and stern. Due to the plywood construction this version has the more defined "hard" chine than the strip version. This makes the boat a little more responsive to edged turns. Otherwise the performance of the different version of the Night Herons are all quite similar. The "chine" on the foredeck provides clearance to keep your paddle stroke entry close to the boat while paddling with a high or low paddle angle. It also provides room where you need it for your knees and feet. We can add a sailing rig.
