Queen Excluders / Koningin Uitsluiters / SeparatorsMetal excluders are used to keep the queen bee from being able to lay inside the super chamber where the honey is stored. The metal excluder is sold separately to the beehive and is very useful when it comes time to harvest honey. The queen will lay eggs only in the brood [broei] chamber if she cannot access the super [heuning] chamber above when a queen excluder is used to prevent the queen bee from getting through. The benefit of the excluder is that when it comes to harvesting honey from the super chamber there are no eggs or larvae in the honeycomb and ONLY ripe honey is ready for harvesting and filtering. We sometimes stock plastic excluders as well. 8-Frame Electric Honey ExtractorThe 8-frame electric honey extractor is quite a machine. It is for the next level hobby beekeeper that makes the leap from hobby to side business with your beekeeping! This honey spinner is reversible, which means it doesn’t need the frames to be lifted up and turned around between harvesting each side. Some extractors, but not this one, only spin one-way. What this leads to is the extractor having to be brought to a halt and all of the frames being lifted turned around and then put back into the extractor to empty the other side. This extractor, like many of our others, makes use of reversible technology so that all that you, as the beekeeper, need to do is bring the centrifuge spinner to a stop and then just switch the setting on the controller to swing the other direction. Why is this important to do?Firstly, when harvesting and spinning raw honey one has to empty the frames equally on both sides in proportions. Let me explain, you fill the extractor with honey frames and they are full on both sides. Heavily laden. If you spin one side to empty then the frame comb will break under the stress of the weight of the other side. In order to avoid this, you have to allow for only 25% – 30% of the honey on one side to be extracted before stopping and repeating the same on another side!Secondly, it saves you time not having to remove, turn around the place back inside the extractor all of the frames. Remember, too heavy on one side, and the comb breaks.Thirdly, the process to fully remove and extract as much honey from the comb as possible requires about three sets of this process. When using a reversible honey extractor, this process doesn’t need to be done by you. It doesn’t take twice as long to harvest honey using an extractor that does not reverse.Lastly, the 8-frame electric controller is programmable. Meaning it can be set up to run a preset command sequence. Awesome right?!Get yours today! Get more honey in less time. Get your ‘wet’ supers back out there in no time!

Lemongrass Oil 50mlTrying to Attract bees? If you want to increase your chance of successfully attracting a swarm, you can add an attractant to your bait hive. Lemongrass is very similar to the queen bee’s scent, so honeybees find the mixture of lemongrass and beeswax irresistible.Lemongrass essential oil is a surprisingly good swarm lure and has been used successfully for years by beekeepers to attract swarms looking for a new home. The smell of the lemongrass oil mimics the smell of scout bees scenting the location of a new home and helps to draw in more scouts.Attract bees with Lemongrass oilA little bit of essential oil goes a long way and this isn’t a situation where more is better. The 50ml bottle is enough to bait hives for many seasons. A couple of drops inside the bait hive, catch box or swarm trap is enough to last several weeks. How do you use lemongrass oil?Attract bees using lemongrass oil we specifically bottle and supply with 2-3 drops in the back of the catch box you purchased from us specifically made to work together to lure bees and attract bees to your catch boxes in Southern Africa!

Wax Foundation Sheets - BroodBeeswax foundation sheets for the brood frame only. {Cut to size if you want to use for super frames}We supply wax sheets for the brood frame of the langstroth beehives which are moulded with cell shapes. Yellow colour ONLY!If you have stock of beeswax from harvesting honey it is much more economical for you to use a flat pan with some baking paper to melt and spread the wax across the pan and make your own wax foundation sheets even without the moulded cells. Let’s face it – the bees know how to make the cells, they have been doing it for millions of years! The minimum order for wax brood sheets is 10!MOQ = 10 wax sheets for mail ordersWax Foundation Sheet Tips:Use the wax foundation sheets to guide the honeybees where they should build using the frame. Many beekeepers use the full foundation sheet in each brood frame. Personally, I prefer not to do so in the brood chamber as the wax comb needs to be serviced every 2-3 years anyway. Thus you loose the wax foundation each time you service the frame and remove the wax comb to allow the bees and especially the queen to lay in virgin wax comb.We prefer to use the brood sheet and cut it into wax strips and place these onto the brood frame. The size is not important for me however a rough guide is 2cm up to the first wire.Wax sheets require bubble wrap and newspaper packaging. The sheets weigh roughly 90g each however the volumetric weight is how the postal service charges this item.Sometimes the wax sheets are seldom available due to the season and low supply of beeswax.Customers ALSO Bought These:Spare Brood FramesLearn Beekeeping Onlinewww.startbeekeeping.co.za

4-Frame Stainless Steel Honey Extractor – ElectricThis is an amazing honey spinner. It takes the bees about 8x the amount in nectar to build 1x of beeswax comb. So, how does this impact honey production? For every frame you are spinning in a honey extractor the bees can just refill it in about 7-10 days!!For every frame you cut the honey comb out and crush the bees have to rebuild it while they wait for new storage space to be available and you / they LOSE about 3-weeks of honey production time! This honey extractor provides for 4 super frames and can also take 4 brood frames from Langstroth hives. When on a nectar flow, when flowers are blossoming in your area where the bees are, a strong colony can FILL a drawn comb (comb with cells already built) within 7-10 days! The hardest part for the bees is establishing the first set of comb throughout the bee hive. Once this is done, the rest can be reused for the supers for months and perhaps years before they need maintenance. The brood space is different. It does need regular maintenance for many reasons – which we cover on our bee courses – both in Midrand on bee workshops and our Start Beekeeping Academy for Beginner Beekeepers OnlineRegister yourself as a beekeeper selling honey or candles, doing bee removals and running workshops around the world!www.beekeepinghub.com

Langstroth Bee hive – *shipping not included**Wooden beehives with aluminium lid, floor, super, brood & all frames Wax starter Strips and wired. Treated with Waksol. The mainstay of a beekeeper’s equipment. You need bee hives to keep bees. There are many different ways of doing this, for example, using clay pots, logs, bark and so many more. The generally accepted beehive used conventionally is the Langstroth hive in South Africa. Preference is paramount again. There are a few parts that make a conventional hive: the base, the brood, the super, 10 frames in each, a queen excluder (not included) and finally the lid.Delivery or shipping is not included. If not collected from the shop in Centurion shipping will be applied. We have had to increase our prices on both types of beehives since we have not had increases for over 2 years! Costs as you can imagine have risen. We cannot hold the previous prices any longer! All of our beehives are treated with Waksol which is natural weather protection and also acts as a honeybee attractant when placed in direct sun.Within 2 -3 days in a bee-friendly area, you should have a new colony move into one of our beehives in the spring/summer season! Weight as it stands = 18kgAll beehive frames are wired and have wax strips. The lid is actually covered with aluminium sheeting. We can send Assembled beehives anywhere in South Africa within 5 working days by courier order with courier fee extra per hive.Got the Hive you’re looking for?Start with a brood chamber, 10 frames with wax foundation, a base and a lid. One can go the whole hog and get the full deal. The complete assembled hive. REMEMBER!The frames are all wired & have WAX STRIPS only! This does not include the queen excluder – SOLD SEPARATELYYou can expect to have foundation wax strips in both chambers, 10 frames per chamber. You can use creosote to treat your hives. You can also use Bitumen Silver Enamel paint. Or do both. Be sure to use the correct creosote as some do contain contaminants. We have opted for the Waksol treatment of our beehives. This means the beehives are dunked into a vat of melted beeswax and submerged for 3 minutes. The closest method to having a natural hive and the best as far as food-grade honey goes. Also, leave your hives to dry and air properly before transferring a colony into it. Frames usually come standard. You can make your own. Do not treat these. You can and it is recommended that you put wax foundation sheets on the frames. You can also use Pollen traps and feeders with your hives. You can also visit our website www.beeware.co.za and follow us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/BeeWareZa/ for more beekeeping content!
