1971 VW Beetle 1600 – Classic Air-Cooled Icon – For Sale in Wilderness (Garden Route)Video:
https://youtu.be/QNU9e4vkRFc This 1971 Beetle has been my passion project for the past four years. From the early breakdowns to effortlessly cruising between Cape Town and George, I’ve invested countless hours, care and resources to get her into reliable, enjoyable, head-turning condition. Why 1971 is special:
This is the last year the Beetle came with the classic teardrop tail lights before they became larger and bulkier in 1972. Collectors and enthusiasts know these details matter — they’re part of what makes the ’71 such an iconic, sought-after model. What’s been done:
Full paint job (2025 – R35k) - Engine overhaul & repaint (2025 – R15k) - New wheel bearings (R8k) - Electrical wiring refresh (R4k) - New JVC Bluetooth radio with speakers (2x front, 2x rear + tweeters – loud enough to hear over the Beetle’s roar) - R5k.- Steering box replacement & front suspension torsion bars + rubbers overhaul R5k - New carburetor R3k - New distributor & plugs/wires - R3k - Roof rack - R4k- New tyres (2023) R6k - Interior refresh – R4k ✅ 1600cc single-port air-cooled engine – runs beautifully ✅ Classic two-tone paint with original-style chrome hubcaps and roof rack ✅ Paperwork & licence disc up to date ✅ Located in Wilderness (Garden Route, South Africa)
This Beetle starts easily, drives comfortably on longer trips, and draws smiles wherever it goes. It’s perfect for someone who wants a usable classic — not just a showpiece. Shipping: I can assist with shipping to the UK & North America and other destinations at the buyer’s cost. International shipping is not included in the price.
