Responsibilities:
Nursing Services:
Follow a nursing plan for the promotion of health, self-care and treatment of residents.Respond immediately to bells rung by residents who require attention.Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.Provides physical and psychological support to residents, friends, and families.Establishes a compassionate environment by ensuring that emotional and psychological support is provided to residents and their families.Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against resident care goals and Foundation standards.Ensure that resident care services are documented by charting in resident and department records.Monitor residents closely and report on symptoms and changes in residents’ condition.Order medication as per doctors’ orders from pharmacy or via families as required.Conduct at least three medicine rounds per shift or as required.Ensure all medication are secured in cupboard and that access is limited.Conduct routine blood pressure, weight, temperature, HGT, insulin and morphine checks. Ensure it is properly recorded and action is taken with regards to any deviation from the norm.Assist/ arrange transfer of resident to and from hospital as needed.Assist with new resident admissions.Report all complaints referred by residents and doctors to the Registered Nurse.Maintains resident confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
Compliance:
Remain current on professional rules and regulations.Ensure compliance to all nursing protocols.Protects residents by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; medication administration and storage procedures; and controlled substance regulations.
Communication:
Attend nursing services team meetings to promote communication and information sharing.Liaising with residents’ families regarding their health status.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbents will be responsible for:
• Teaching, curriculum development and co-ordinating programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
• Supervising postgraduate research appropriate to the post level;
• Supervising practical work in professional training programmes in Educational Psychology;
• Conducting
research at a competitive level, commensurate to the level of
appointment and actively contributing to the Department’s research
profile;
• Performing various academic and administrative duties as determined by the Head of Department;
• Participating in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• A master’s degree in psychology
• Psychologist to be registered with HPCSA in their respective category
• Registration for doctoral studies (or willingness to register within 12 months of being appointed);
• Ability
to lecture in the following areas: family oriented intervention,
therapeutic interventions, psychological assessment, group therapy,
research methods, inclusive education, career guidance, guidance
counselling and specialized learning support and learning diversity
• At
least three years’ experience in tertiary education or more than three
years clinical experience as a psychologist (ability to supervise
clinical practicums of M.Ed. Educational Psychology students)
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
(SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
• At least one year of clinical/therapeutic experience, post internship
• Experience in hybrid teaching and learning
• At least 3 years teaching experience in higher education

• Research record and evidence of research outputs (e.g. publications in peer-reviewed journals), commensurate to the post level
• A record of accomplishment of postgraduate research supervision, commensurate to the post level.
• Knowledge and/or experience in professional training of psychologists

Sophiatown Community Psychological Services is a community mental health service targeting vulnerable population groups in the inner city of Johannesburg, and in and around Soweto. Sophiatown CPS offers a range of counselling and other psycho-social support services, with a particular focus on children and families whose emotional well-being has been impacted by HIV/AIDS and bereavement; forced displacement and war; violence in the home and the community; extreme poverty; the burden of care, and other forms of economic and social marginalization. Sophiatown CPS is committed to supporting the wider community of practice and to developing a culture of ethics management in the NPO sector.
Sophiatown CPS seeks to appoint a Junior Social Worker to render social work, counselling, and other psycho-social support services to individuals, families, and groups at its Bertrams office, which serves primarily inner-city refugee and migrant communities. This position is based in Johannesburg.
Responsibilities:
Home and site visits
Supporting clients’ efforts to access service providers and advocating on their behalf
Compiling of social work reports for statutory agencies
Liaison with statutory agencies around the protection and care of children and other vulnerable clients
Individual counselling and co-facilitation of groups
Active collaboration with other service providers in the non-government sector to ensure that clients get the most comprehensive service possible
Actively contributing to advocacy processes with regards to systemic human rights violations.
Minimum Requirements:
Registration as a qualified social worker with SACSSP
A working knowledge of all legislation pertaining to the rights of children, migrants, and other vulnerable population groups
A working knowledge of counselling principles
Good writing skills as evidenced in the capacity to produce meaningful reports
A genuine commitment to upholding human rights and the ethics of the profession and the organization
Fluency in at least three South African languages
Valid drivers license
Preference may be given to:
Residence in Johannesburg
Experience in individual counselling
Experience in the facilitation of group-based counselling intervention
Genuine commitment to teamwork and the collective effort to bring about change
Proven administrative skills
The ability to thrive in resource deprived settings
Capacity for critical self-reflection and meaningful self-care
A willingness to engage deeply with narratives of trauma and their social, political, and economic contexts
