It works like a jointer, but the cutting happens on the vertical fence instead of on the table. A large circular cutterhead spins at a high rate of speed. The cutterhead is fit with eight high speed steel cutting bits. This machine is particularly handy when jointing shorter pieces of wood that would be too dangerous to do on a conventional jointer.It was initially used in education centres for this added safety feature.It is also great for jointing highly figured wood, as there will be no chipping or tear-out like you would likely experience on a straight knife jointer.
