Signed Koshida Shimazu Clan Family Crest Meiji Period (late 19th century) - 越田Satsuma. The circle with a cross that often make up a part of the marks, are the Shimazu mon or the family crest of the clan that ruled Satsuma Han. Koshida seems to have been a prolific maker of Satsuma from at least the 1880,s. Much of their production was decorated by some of the best artists and bears their marks as well as Koshida's. Koshida would have closed about 1927.

Early salt glazed GRM Reinhold Merkelbach Grenzhausen beer stein. Originally designed in 1906 by professor Richard Riemerschmid, of munich, who was a major figure in the german art nouveau movement. Large, at 0.7 litres, with a beautifully crafted pewter lid.
Adorned with the words "gaudeamus igitur" around the top, which translates as "so let us rejoice" -- a popular student beer drinking song. This looks to be an early version using the original molds. In good condition overall. Open to reasonable offers. Postage via Postnet can be arranged and enquires via WhatsApp are preferred and will usually be responded to quicker.
