PLA production is a popular as it represents the fulfilment of the dream of cost-efficient, non-petroleum plastic production. The huge benefit of PLA as a bioplastic is its versatility and the fact that it naturally degrades when exposed to the environment. For example, a PLA bottle left in the ocean would typically degrade in six to 24 months. Compared to conventional plastics (which in the same environment can take several hundred to a thousand years to degrade) this is truly phenomenal. Approved for use in food contact applications in EU (EC No. 10/2011), USA (FDA 21 CFR) and China (GB 9685-2016),• Compliant with EN13432 and ASTM D6400 standards for industrial composting, • Biobased content of 100% according to EN16785-1 and ASTM D6866,• REACH compliant,• Reduced carbon footprint - peer reviewed LCA study available.• Made from GMO-free crops It has characteristics similar to polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), or polystyrene (PS).
