Susan and Julie from Cornfields Olderhill Kennels have a new litter of Kangal puppies born 29th July 2025. 6 boys and one girl. They will be ready for homes at 8 weeks when they will have been dewormed, vaccinated and vet checked.
Our Kangals help us to look after our milk goats and are our pets. They are very clever and show us if a goat is not well. They are huge but gentle with all our other pets and visitors ‘ children. They are very calm, relaxed and confident dogs. Our puppies go to their new families and 10 minutes later run around and play with the children. (We have a lovely video of this taken by one of our puppies’ families.) Our Kangals are also very quiet and only bark if there is a problem, and then with a melodious low tone voice very different from most dogs who are excitable and bark in high -pitched loud voices.
The difference between Kangals and Anatolian Shepherds is that:-
the Kangal is an ancient Turkish breed bred up to today not just to herd sheep but to stay with them and protect them from predators and to protect their human owners and their children. They are big, light gold dogs with darker muzzles and ears, and their tails can curl up. The very tip of the tail is tightly curled.
The Anatolian Shepherd is a mixture of the Kangal and other Turkish breeds bred in America. It tends to be smaller and finer- built and a whiter colour than Kangals.
Our photos here show the puppies' mother, father, uncle (with our milk goats) and brothers and sisters born last year. We will add their photos when they are a bit older.
