Our grow tubes provide a number of advantages and are very successfully used by farmers for Vineyards across South Africa. Also very successful for the cultivation and growth of any young fruit trees and proteas.We manufacture our grow tubes locally in a
variety of sizes. (300, 400 and 600mm length) We can custom make other sizes
and colours.
A recent study* conducted by the University
of Maryland has shown the many benefits of using vine protectors, also known as
grow tubes.
The study found that Internode lengths are
often longer in the portion of the trunk covered by the tube due to rapid
growth. In fact, the study found that making use of the tubes allowed for up to
2 inches of growth per day.
Vine Protectors have shown some distinct
advantages for establishment. Vine Protectors get the vine off to a quick start
by promoting upright, rapid growth without the added labour of tying to stakes. During dry periods without irrigation they can provide moisture at the base
from condensation that aids in establishment. The tubes also protect young
vines from pests such as rabbits and buck if other means of protection are not
in place. From the new grower’s standpoint, maybe their best attribute is to
reduce the danger to the vine when applying post-emergence or contact
herbicides.
