Both Tuscany (Italy) and Provence (France) are renowned
for their stunning, vibrant red poppy fields that bloom in late spring,
creating a, picturesque, and often fleeting landscape. These wild poppies typically
appear peaking around mid-May, depending on the spring rains.
Pieters paintings were known to be characterized by a
loose impressionistic style and a vibrant use of colour. Known for fluid
brushwork and a focus on light and atmosphere. His later contemporary works
moved further toward expressionism, featuring even bolder and more intense use
of colour.
His work typically focuses on South African life and
scenery, including: Cape wine farms, Karoo farm scenes, and coastal
"ocean breeze" views. Many paintings were still life’s with Lilies,
magnolias, chrysanthemums, other flowers and even copper still-life
compositions. He also did scenes of Bo-Kaap street life, fishing, children on
the beach, and farm activities like feeding chickens.
