Before the Internet, the only way to find used home and garden items was to go to yard sales. If you were the one who had used home and garden items for sale, you had the hassle to having a yard sale. This meant lots of cleaning, organising, advertising, and time dedicated to the sale itself. Fortunately, there is an easy way to pass on those secondhand home and garden items to someone who can use them.

Types of Used Home and Garden Items

Second hand home and garden items in Eastern Cape include a variety of categories. One might be looking for outdoor items, such as soaker hoses, patio furniture, gazebos, and garden tools. This category also includes anything from furniture, to home décor to bath towels. It is a buyer beware world and you have to be careful. Most used items do not come with a warranty, so there is no chance of returning it if it is not want you wanted, or if you find out that it is defective.

Hints for Buying Used Home and Garden Items in South Africa

The first tip is never to consider an item that does not have a clear picture, or where the description is vague. If the item does not have a picture, you might try contacting them and inform them politely that you are interested in their item, but will only consider it if you see a picture first. If the person does not provide a picture, move on, particularly if the person assures you that the item is close to new condition. Some sellers will try to get you to come out and then pressure you to buy an inferior item using high-pressure tactics when you get there.

The Right Price for Secondhand Home and Garden Items

The next question that people usually have is how much is a fair price to pay for an item. The first thing you need to do is to find out what the retail price for the item is. A used item should generally never sell for more than 50 per cent of the current retail price, regardless of condition. If the item is badly worn, an additional 25-50 per cent should be taken off. Never pay retail for a used item.
