Job Decription for Quantity surveyor- We seek a competent and experienced quantity surveyor to join our team at R&C Consultant PTY Ltd.- Quantity surveyor should estimate and control costs for large construction projects. You have to make sure that structures meet legal and quality starndards. Quantity surveyors are involved at every stage of a project.- you must typically begin working on a project during the design phase, giving cost estimates associated with the project, such as materials, labour and equipment. They also prepair tender documents and contracts for the project.- During the construction phase, you monitor and manage costs to ensure the project is completed within the budget. Quantity surveyors may also assist in resolving disputes between parties involved in the construction project. Required Skills And Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management or a related field.- 6 months + experience in quantity surveying or cost consulting, preferably in the construction industry.- Sound knowledge of construction industry practices, regulations and standards.- Proficiency in cost estimatetion and cost management techniques. - Familiarity with contract administration and legal aspects of construction. Your Tasks- Understanding the client requairements and quantities take off as per marketing and RCP drawings.- Preparing bill of quantities (BOQ) by studying specification sheets from the sales team.- Identifying gaps between BOQ and drawings, specifications and conditions of the contract and taking it for a logical closure.- Monitor amd control costs throughout the project, identifying cost-saving opportunities.- Participation in the pre-tendering activities with clients, architect and project managers and raising relevant pre-bid queries from the given tender.

*Requirements: *
* BSc/BEng/BTech(Quantity Surveying)
* Construction industry and planning experience at a senior level in the Technical/Engineering/Construction field with a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience
* The physical attributes required for the performance of tasks associated with specific key performance areas in this post necessitates the incumbent to be physically fit and able-bodied.
* Code EB driver’s licence.
*Key performance areas: *
* Effectively co-ordinate and manage all quantity surveying functions, planning functions and where applicable project management functions in the Public Housing Department for various civil, architectural, electrical and structural engineering projects
* Conduct feasibility and pilot studies on potential future rental stock upgrades, including assessing yield, cost, technical feasibility and environmental impacts
* Conduct financial assessments and planning for future schemes
* Participate in joint infrastructure planning with the PIU and Wards
* Assist with conducting, updating and reviewing the AMIP master plan
* Conduct planning investigations compilation of Bills of Quantities and studies for future infrastructure, site selection, cost planning and feasibility studies
* Compile and report on Project Progress and compiling project program plans
* Manage projects and contracts being conducted by staff, consultants and Contractors
* Practice financial controls within the planning section which includes capital/operating estimates, managing/controlling expenditure and ensuring legislative, regulatory and audit requirements are complied with
* Manage all quantity surveying services by co-ordinate and manage all stakeholders, prepare costs of new projects, advise on contractual issues and disputes and ensure compliance
* Manage, guide and mentor personnel in the Planning Section.

Our client, a Mechancial Engineering company in Cape Town, is currently seeking the services of a Project Manager / Site Manager to assume responsibility for the management of marine projects including technical, scheduling, cost control, and progress monitoring. These projects will be involve marine repair and shipyard work.
• Coordinate Marine Site activities.
• Coordinate and carry out surveys on site as and prepare quotations and costing estimations.
• Coordinate Project management (including procurement, fabrication follow-up, project profitability report)
• Coordinate ‘Start Up’ meetings with Workshop Foreman / Yard Supervisors with project commencement and as
required during the project phase.
• Overall follow up and reporting on the project
• Contact and liaise with clients and stakeholders to clarify technical, commercial and schedule aspects
• Coordinate, follow up and monitor, with the Workshop Foreman / team leaders, critical resources such as :
- Equipment (type and quantity to be adapted to the workload)
- Stock (Consumables, hand tool equipment and raw material)
- Maintenance operations
• Coordinate and organize the procurement of raw material for projects as charged. Orders and purchase
consumables and material as required for the workshop/yard/offices as approved by management
• Coordinate and ensure that issued drawings and technical information correspond to the client and contract
requirements
• Coordinate with the QA/QC department for project preparation (i.e., Welding book, WPS, Selection of qualified
welders and NDT requirements) during the project
• Prepare the Project Summary upon project completion for management
• Complies with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, legal and regulatory requirements as stipulated
by company requirements
Education & Qualifications
• Relevant Trade or Mechanical Engineering qualification
Knowledge and Experience:
• 5 to 10 years’ experience as a Project Engineer / Superintendent / Site Manager in the Marine Maintenance /Shipyard work.
Construction / Survey industry.
• Mechanical Fitting / Maintenance and Fabrication experience
Education & Qualifications
• Relevant Trade or Mechanical Engineering qualification
