A busy road construction company is seeking a Junior Estimator with civil construction experience and proficiency in Excel.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Estimating
Costs: Use software to accurately estimate the costs associated
with road construction projects. This includes materials, labour,
equipment, and any other related costs.Data
Analysis and Reporting: Creating spreadsheets, charts, and graphs to
present data in a clear and understandable manner.Bid
Preparation: Assist in preparing and submitting bids for new projects.
This includes gathering all necessary documentation, ensuring compliance
with all bid requirements, and working closely with senior estimator to
develop competitive bids.Collaboration
with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and
other stakeholders to ensure that estimates are accurate and reflect the
project scope. Communicate any cost-related issues or discrepancies that
may arise during the project planning phase.Market
Research: Conduct research on market trends, material costs, and
labour rates to ensure that estimates are competitive and accurate.Software
Proficiency: Proficiency in Excel and other construction-related software.
Qualifications:
Educational
Background: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field is often required.Experience:
At least 3 – 5 years prior experience in road construction is highly
beneficial, providing practical knowledge of construction processes,
materials, and costs. Experience in a junior or assistant estimator role
is also valuable.Technical
Skills: Familiarity with construction management software, CAD programs, or BIM (Building
Information Modelling) tools can be advantageous.Analytical
Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical skills are necessary for
accurately estimating costs and analysing data.Communication
Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills are crucial
for preparing reports, collaborating with team members, and interacting
with clients or stakeholders.Attention
to Detail: Must have a keen eye for details to ensure that all aspects
of the estimates are accurate and comprehensive.Problem-Solving
Skills: Ability to identify problems and discrepancies in project
plans or bids and develop effective solutions.Time
Management: Capability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
simultaneously, prioritizing tasks as needed.
