I am reposting this ad , due to absolute time wasters that say they are coming to look at the car and never pitch. I have put off so many other potential buyers. No one has been to see this car yet.So here goes again. I have dropped the price to R190 000 for a quick sale. The car is a series 1 Cabriolet. First year of production was 1960. Only 6 RHD were manufactured and 3 are known to have survived. I bought the car in Bloemfontein where it had been dry stored since 1980.There was no rust on the car except for a little on the front floor panels, most probably from moisture under the carpets. I imported 2 brand new panels from Italy.I I stripped the car down to the bare body shell( see photos) and had it sprayed by a professional classic car body shop , who welded in the new panels.The car was red ( see photo) and when stripped we found that it was originally Azzurio Chiaro Blue, which we sprayed it.New hood material and plastic rear window was imported I had a well known classic car upholsterer redo the seats, carpets , hood etc.The car was very complete when I got it. The engine ran perfectly when I started it.I have spent 100"s of hours refurbishing everything.I never quite finished the car. I moved to my new farm in the Langkloof a couple of years ago.The car is stored in my nephews garage in Sunningdale , Tableview in the Cape.There are a few minor things left to do on the car. I imported a couple of chrome bits that were tarnished.There are no papers for the car, so it will have to go for police clearance and put on the Natis system. LHD cabriolets sell for between 25000 and 30000 GBP and there were 1200 produced. So this RHD will be worth more.The car needs to go. I have reduced the price down to R190 000 for a quick sale. PLEASE do not contact me unless you are a serious buyer with the cash. Genuine 2 owner car car was purchased from the first owner a few years ago… mini has been in the free state up until 2018
Over the years the car has been resprayed and paint is not perfect, but presents well
chrome is good interior is good, although carpet is not original seats have been re covered somewhere along the line .Mechanically she starts and runs nicely

So, I placed my XJ6 up for sale recently for R 85 000 negotiable – a couple
of interested buyers came to view and I discovered I had some rust holes in the
floor pan that needed sorting out. I am in the process of welding new panels in
but I am finding the work time-consuming and labour intensive and although I
plan to continue this restoration work, whilst I do so, I thought I would offer
the car plus the spare engine and gearbox up for sale in a “As Is” condition; for
the new buyer to undertake the required work. As such, the price is now R 50 000
(but non-negotiable!)
As and when I complete the work up to a “Pass CoR standard”, should I have
had no interest in a sale on the above conditions – then I will revise the
price back to the original R 85 000.
She’s in impressive condition for a 50 year old vehicle! – this fine old
lady was bought by me in 2021 and was taken through its COR then, with all the
necessary work undertaken by Steve Marsh Classic Autos (invoices available, of
course!) I also have copies of other work undertaken on the vehicle by the
previous owner, going back to the early 2000s.
Since my purchase, if she’s done an additional 5 000 km, that would be a
lot! The speedo currently reads 56 811 but I cannot guarantee its validity. The
car starts first time, every time and sports virtually brand new tyres – I’ve
taken her on a number of Jaguar Club outings; 2 x Distinguished Gentleman’s
Drives and a number of Wedding and Matric Dance bookings and have only had the
most favourable of comments from fellow participants and/or my paying clients.
Being Gold in colour – she certainly does turn heads! …
The infrequency of use due to advancing age (mine, not the cars) and certain
health issues, have led me to the reluctant decision to sell and let someone
else get more use out of her. It’s not documented whether the engine is the
original but the car comes with a spare 4.2 litre engine and auto gearbox and a
couple of boxes of spare parts.
Everything works on the car including the aircon and electric windows – only
thing that I’ve not been able to fix is the dashboard clock!
Serious buyers only please, for this prime example of motoring history
which, despite her age, still offers superb Grace – Space – Pace! …
