Blood Eagle - Craig Russell - Jan Fabel #1.
The first woman had her lungs ripped out. When the same gruesome ritualistic method was used again, it was clear that the same killer was responsible. But there is no precise evidence to link the two cases, except for the tantalising email. In his first crime novel, Craig Russell introduces us to a new detective hero, Jan Fabel -half-Scottish, half-German -a man of conscience and imagination. Russell has also created a richly textured scenario where the City of Hamburg plays a central role -it is a city where the old Germany combines increasingly with the new, where gangs from Turkey and the Ukraine battle for supremacy. Blood Eagle is a violently exciting thriller and Fabel's desperate attempt to solve the case before more victims are discovered, gradually uncovers layer upon layer of intrigue. How can he track a murderer who leaves no trail, whose victims seem purposefully random and whose motive reaches far beyond greed and lust, into the darkest recesses of the human soul?

The Shelters Of Stone - Jean. M. Auel - Fifth In The Earth's Children Series.
The Shelters of Stone opens as Ayla and Jondalar, along with their animal friends, Wolf, Whinney, and Racer, complete their epic journey across Europe and are greeted by Jondalar’s people: the Zelandonii. The people of the Ninth Cave of the Zelandonii fascinate Ayla. Their clothes, customs, artifacts, even their homes—formed in great cliffs of vertical limestone—are a source of wonder to her. And in the woman Zelandoni, the spiritual leader of the Ninth Cave (and the one who initiated Jondalar into the Gift of Pleasure), she meets a fellow healer with whom to share her knowledge and skills.
But as Ayla and Jondalar prepare for the formal mating at the Summer Meeting, there are difficulties. Not all the Zelandonii are welcoming. Some fear Ayla’s unfamiliar ways and abhor her relationship with those they call flatheads and she calls Clan. Some even oppose her mating with Jondalar, and make their displeasure known. Ayla has to call on all her skills, intelligence, knowledge, and instincts to find her way in this complicated society, to prepare for the birth of her child, and to decide whether she will accept new challenges and play a significant role in the destiny of the Zelandonii.
Jean Auel is at her very best in this superbly textured creation of a prehistoric society. The Shelters of Stone is a sweeping story of love and danger, with all the wonderful detail—based on meticulous research— that makes her novels unique. It is a triumphant continuation of the Earth’s Children® saga that began with The Clan of the Cave Bear. And it includes an amazing rhythmic poem that describes the birth of Earth’s Children and plays its own role in the narrative of The Shelters of Stone.

My Autobiography - Murray Walker - Unless I'm Very Much Mistaken.
Murray Walker is a national institution. The
turbo-tongued motor-racing commentator who played a key role in the shaping of
Formula One's televised image over the past three decades, Murray's unique
brand of boyish enthusiasm made even the dullest race sound like an unmissable
thriller. There was no one remotely like him on television -- and the public
loved him.
Ever since his first stint at the microphone in
1949 at the British Grand Prix, Murray has entertained us with his commentaries
on car and motorcycle racing and in particular Formula One. In his
autobiography, he describes his relationship with many of the key personalities
of his era, from Geoff Duke to Mike Hailwood, Stirling Moss to John Surtees,
Nigel Mansell to Ayrton Senna, and Damon Hill to current world champion Michael
Schumacher.
He also recalls his celebrated commentary
partnerships, initially with the inimitable James Hunt and later with martin
Brundle, his surprise move from the BBC to ITV, and looks at how the sport has
evolved from its humble beginnings to today's multi-billion pound industry.
Away from the pit lane, he talks about his early
personal life and the influence of his father Graham, about his experiences in
the war with the Royal Scots Greys, and later his fascinating and highly
successful career as an advertising executive handling major blue-chip
companies such as Esso and Mars.
In the drama-filled world of Formula
One, Murray Walker's story is a refreshingly candid and straight-talking
account of a sport he adores and which every one of his fans across the world
should read. F1
