I am selling my company, McLean's Furniture Restoration (MFR), KZN’s premier furniture restoration business. After building, and running, the company for 20 years, I am stepping away to head up a new non-profit organisation. My company is a plug-and-play business, requires very little previous experience in the field of restoration, and will generate income immediately after the transfer of ownership. The company presently operates from a secure workshop complex, surrounded by other businesses. With that said, the company is well suited to someone who wants to work from home, as the business can be easily run out of a double garage. It is a great lifestyle business, requiring very little management, providing you, the new owner, with a great deal of freedom, and very little stress. I am splitting the business, selling a 70% share to the new owner, and ceding 30% of the business to my current workshop foreman, a superbly skilled restorer, and the backbone of the workshop. This will ensure that his expertise is not lost when the business changes hands. The business has two skilled staff members, apart from the foreman, and together, they runs all aspects of the workshop. Additional labour is available, on a day-to-day or weekly basis, as required. As a shareholder, the workshop foreman has a vested interest in the success of the business, and there is no danger that he will leave the business. This, I believe, offers you, as the new owner, a great sense of security. As the new owner of the business, you can choose your level of involvement in the physical restoration of the furniture. You may choose to assist in the workshop (and learn the art of antique restoration from a modern master), or simply commit to administering your clients, maintaining the marketing materials and transporting the furniture. The business is amazingly simple to run, and your level of involvement is completely up to you to decide. We are a busy workshop with a very good reputation, and many word-or-mouth referrals. We are consistently profitable. That said, there is definitely room for expansion. The business turns over between R40000 and R60000 per month, with a profit of between R20000 and R35000 per month. Your investment in MFR should be recouped in between 12 months and 18 months. The sale includes all hand and power tools (including 2 mitre saws and a table saw), remaining hardware, materials and consumables, the company website, over 100 well crafted and highly effective renewable social media adverts, quotation and invoicing templates, and access to my knowledge and expertise for the first 3 months following transfer.
