For Sale – Olivetti Studio 44 Vintage Typewriter A classic Olivetti Studio 44 vintage typewriter, presented in good condition and complete with its original carry case and manual. Finished in the iconic green body with grey keys, this machine has strong visual appeal and timeless design. Please note: the typewriter has not been tested and is therefore sold voetstoots (as-is). The Olivetti Studio 44 was designed to bridge the gap between portable and desktop typewriters and is often regarded as the desktop counterpart to the popular Olivetti Lettera 22 and Lettera 32 models. The example on offer was made in Barcelona, Spain, and is likely from the 1960s, a period during which some machines were branded “Underwood Olivetti” following the merger. Known for its durable construction and tactile typing experience, the Studio 44 remains popular among collectors, writers, and design enthusiasts. While the case is slightly bulky, the typewriter itself is a practical and well-proportioned size. Its wonderful aesthetic makes it as much a display piece as a functional writing instrument—one that inspires creativity, whether poetry or prose. CLASSIC OLYMPIA SG1 DE LUXE TYPEWRITER 1961 (NO 7-6935464) MADE IN GERMANY THIS IS VINTAGE 1961 OLYMPIA SG1 TYPEWRITER. MADE IN WEST GERMANY.THIS IS AN SG (SCHREIBMASCHINE GROSS OR HUGE TYPEWRITER) 1 DELUXE MODEL FROM 1961 WITH SERIAL NO 7-693546.THE SG1 MODEL FIRST APPEARED IN THE MARKET IN 1953 AND WAS MADE UNTIL 1962. IT QUICKLY BECAME A CLASSIC AND IS REGARDED BY MANY AS ONE OF THE GREATEST TYPEWRITERS EVER MADE AND STANDS ON THE PINNACLE OF GERMAN TYPEWRITER ENGINEERING! IF I WERE TO WALK INTO A 1960S OFFICE BUILDING AND WOULD SEE A ROOM FULL OF THESE. FULLY RECONDITIONED THEY SELL FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS ON EBAY THESE DAYS.THERE WERE 3 MODELS. There was a budget model, the SG1-N, which lacked some features like the paper injector and the double-spacing option. Then you got the SG1-L Deluxe Model which featured a single green Tabular Bar Set which sets and clears all Tabs with one button. Then you got the SG1-S Super Deluxe Model which was a slightly higher-end model that included the more advanced decimal tabulator. A decimal tabulator allows the user to align columns of numbers (including decimal points) automatically, a useful feature for professional accounting and office work. IT IS MOST FAMOUS FOR ITS PAPER INJECTOR, A PROPRIETARY OLYMPIA ATTACHMENT ON THE CARRIAGE. PULL THE LEAVER AND IT INSTANTLY INJECTS A SHEET OF PAPER TO THE PRE-DESIRED HEIGHT. IT IS QUITE ADDICTING. IN ADDITION TO THAT, THE SG ALSO HAS A REMOVABLE CARRIAGE REQUIRING NO DISASSEMBLY. JUST A MERE TURN OF TWO SWITCHES ON THE SIDE, AND THE CARRIAGE LIFTS RIGHT OFF ALLOWING FOR EASY CLEANING. THE MACHINE COMES EQUIPPED WITH A FOUR COLOR SELECTOR, ONE SETTING FOR STENCIL, AND THREE OTHERS TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR SINGLE COLOR RIBBON. SIZE 52CM WIDE x 42CM DEEP x 23CM HIGH APPROXIMATELY WEIGHT 20KGCONDITION: TESTED AND WORKING BUT WILL NEED A RECON TO GET BACK IN SHAPE. THE RIBBON STILL TYPES BUT HAS PARTLY DRIED UP AND HAS SOME TEARS AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. AN AMAZING MACHINE STILL IN FAIR TO GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION OVERALL.OLYMPIA COMPANY: Olympia typewriters began in 1903 and were at one point regarded as the "Mercedes Benz of typewriters" showcasing the effects of solid German engineering. The company flourished until WWII when most of the production facilities and workers where lost during the war. After the war, facing Soviet oppression, several workers fled to West Germany and re-started the company this time as Olympia Werke. They were regarded by many as some of the best manual typewriters ever produced. Olympia saw its most successful years between the 1950s-1970s.
