krugersgold quality and referenceAs a furnithure manufacturer for 40 years having dealt with the whos who in SA I can only give my input based on my experience with wood and antiques. These Ice boxes were invented in the States. Lots of different species were used to make them. Oak and beach , Oregan pine etc were used. When the early ones arrived in SA they were copied by cabinet makers and became a household item before the advent of refrigeration ( electric ) This unit I presume was made in SA and probably by a cabinet maker. There were a lot of nasty copies however this unit has raised panel doors and the age of the dipped galvanise goes back to before WW1. The hardware Hinges latch and strike etc and steel wheels on the plynth also indicates the age of the item. This is a well made unit using PROBABLY recycled aged english oak. Could have been roof trusses or floor boards etc. The petina and the wear and tear on the item is vindicative of the age of the item. The icebox was invented by an American farmer and cabinetmaker named Thomas Moore in 1802. Moore used the icebox to transport butter from his home to the Georgetown markets, which allowed him to sell firm, brick butter instead of soft, melted tubs like his fellow vendors at the time.www.krugersgold.com

This is more than an old door with mirror in it. This is a fashion
statement and will surely add a whole different dimension to the room it
is placed in. Even outside on the patio or veranda or on a wall in your
lapha. Quite tall at 2 meters and 60cm wide. This solid, heavy frame
can be leaned against a wall or actually hung or mounted to a wall.
Nicely restored, new mirror and in a beautiful condition. And as a
matter of interest, there are two of these. So, if you want both, please
let me know. They could be converted back into a double door.
