Audi Q7 3.0TDI V6 Quattro A

SUV under R700k

Judges’ Winner

This large, luxury SUV speaks to a demanding and critical clientele who settle for nothing but the best.

Beneath the bonnet of the Audi Q7 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel is an extremely engine. With a mighty 550Nm of torque, it’s easy to forget that the Q7 weighs almost two tons. Acceleration is impressive while the cabin is very well insulated from engine noise. A very solid eight-speed automatic gearbox helps deliver power to the Quattro (all-wheel-drive) drivetrain.

Audi claim a 0-100km/h sprint time of under seven seconds which, once again, for a vehicle this size, is admirable. Going in search of that kind of performance though will make the reasonable, claimed fuel consumption figure of 7.4-litre/100km seem laughable.

Inside the big Audi, the news is less favourable. The Q7 S-Line is very well spec’d and everything seems to be working, but this car is showing its age a little. The leather on the seats is starting to lose its crispness and there’s a little looseness in the storage compartments in the centre consul.

The primary touch points   the steering wheel, gear lever and doors handles, however are in good shape. A car this size certainly has its advantages. Even with the 3rd row of seats deployed, there is still usable boot space. Fold those two smaller seats down and you’ve got luggage space to burn.
