Using the Gumtree site, reviews from trusted industry opinions as well as comprehensive industry reports, we narrowed the top cars down to a selection of just 5 cars in each category.

Factors such as vehicle performance, price and value were assessed. We even looked at things like fuel consumption and the overall condition of the cars in the category.

From these 5 finalists, our judges will be voting for the winners in each of the 12 categories.
