    Diahatsu Models Review

Founded in 1907 as the Hatsudoki Seizo Co. and headquartered in Ikeda, Osaka Prefecture, Daihatsu received its new name in 1951. The company produces smaller vehicles at very competitive prices. Initially, Daihatsu released unique 3-wheel vehicles that later transitioned to a standard framework of four wheels as worldwide demand grew for their vehicles.

Their product offerings include a small collection of vehicles that still provide the value consumers demand from the brand. The Daihatsu Ayla is one their vehicles that offers one of the most efficient combinations of body design and engine size available. It comes standard with a 1,0-litre engine and a choice of 4 or 5-speed manual transmission. This car was designed to meet the LCGC (Low Cost Green Car) standards common in many parts of the world.

The Daihatsu Cuore is another example of the company's ability to bring economy and style together in a new design. This model has been a consistently popular car for Daihatsu for over 25 years and is available in its seventh generation of design. Daihatsu's Sirion is a part of the sub-compact market, and this second-generation vehicle features a 1,0-litre engine coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission.

A slightly larger model from Daihatsu is the Materia that serves the MPV market very well. The larger chassis has a choice of both a 1,3-litre or 1,5-litre engine and a manual or automatic transmission. The Materia a 5-door hatchback and provides ample interior space for storage. The final vehicle from Daihatsu is the Terios, which appeals to drivers searching for a well-appointed SUV. The second-generation Terios is wider and more spacious than its predecessor and is available in a choice of either a 1,3-litre or 1,5-litre engine with AWD or FWD.

Five Things to Know Before Purchasing a Used Diahatsu Sedan

Five Things to Know Before Purchasing a Used Diahatsu Sedan

As Japan's oldest car manufacturer, Diahatsu has been producing high-quality vehicles since the early 1900s. The vehicle maker has a long heritage of providing vehicles that focus on durability. Used Diahatsu sedans lack many flashy features that are found in other models, but do feature some benefits for those that are shopping for an affordable vehicle. Whether consumers are seeking a family car that can drive kids from school to practice or a comfortable, reliable vehicle that can drive them across the country, investing in a used Diahatsu sedan serves as a wise choice. There are several things to know before shopping for a Diahatsu sedan.

    Diahatsu Sedan Exterior Features

Diahatsu sedans all have four doors, which makes it easy to take up to three passengers with the driver. There are not many notable exterior features for Diahatsu sedans as they are a base-level vehicle. For the Charade line, the flashiest exterior feature are interval windshield wipers, which come in handy during a heavy rain. The Valera models, which were produced until the early 2000s, boast more advanced exterior features, such as keyed bumpers and tinted windows.

    Diahatsu Sedan Engine Specifications

The Diahatsu sedan engines were available in automatic and standard. The engines are specific to the sedan model, providing the right level of power to ensure satisfactory performance for the car size. Because the Valera models are newer on average, they boast more advanced engines that contribute to the overall performance of the vehicle. Knowing the engine differences between the two types of sedan serves as an important factor while evaluating sedans from Diahatsu.

    Diahatsu Sedan Types

When searching for a Diahatsu sedan, there are two different models produced by the company in the 1990s. The Diahatsu Valera and the Diahatsu Charade each provided its own benefits for consumers who were seeking a sedan model. These vehicles provided ample space and a comfortable ride for all passengers within the vehicle. Both models boasted four doors and similar features with some distinct differences that can drive consumers towards one model compared to the other based on their use case for the sedan.

    Diahatsu Valera

The Valera from Diahatsu was produced by the company for nearly a decade, with production ending in 2001. Used Diahatsu sedans in the Valera model line feature more advanced features, such as power steering and an engine coolant temperature sensor. Diahatsu focused on producing the Valera to fit the need of consumers to find an affordable, reliable car that boasted baseline functionality. Because of this, the vehicle tends to lack some of the standard features that are available on other cars produced at the same time.

    Diahatsu Charade

The Diahatsu Charade was manufactured by the company in the early 1990s, specifically from 1992-1994. The vehicle was available in both standard and automatic models. The automatic engine featured three speeds while the standard engine offered by five speeds. The engine boasted 90 horsepower in an inline engine with four cylinders. The engine size is similar to other smaller sedan models and enables drivers to get the performance that they need for city and country driving. Interior features for the Diahatsu Charade are quite basic, making it a used sedan that does not boast a number of features to increase functionality beyond what is expected in a base model.

    Diahatsu Sedan Interior Features

The Diahatsu sedan interior features are similar to what is available in other sedans made during the early 1990s. Both the Charade and Valera include basic technology, such as a tachometer and clock. The interior design is very basic and designed with function in mind, which can be attractive to consumers who are shopping for a vehicle that will get them from point A to point B. There are few upgrades that are available in used Diahatsu sedans, which makes it easy to shop for models as they all feature the same interior and exterior features.

    Diahatsu Sedan Safety Ratings

Compared to other used sedans of the same years, the Diahatsu has a similar safety profile. The company's sedan models were manufactured before vehicles were subject to safety regulations and rules. Because of this, Diahatsu made during the 1990s may not have as strong of safety ratings as newer sedan models. The car does not include any airbags, antilock braking system, or traction control. The used Diahatsu sedan models were not tested in any crash tests so data related to those tests, which are now considered standard, is not available.

Purchasing a Diahatsu sedan can be a smart decision for consumers who are seeking a vehicle that can provide ample space and serve as a reliable vehicle option. Because of the company's long history in the industry as well as the fact that it can call Toyota its parent company, Diahatsu serves as a sound investment. Whether consumers opt for the Valera or slightly older model Charade, they can rely on Gumtree to search for the Diahatsu vehicle and features that meet their needs for a sedan.

Top Five Things to Consider When Purchasing a Used Daihatsu SUV

Top Five Things to Consider When Purchasing a Used Daihatsu SUV

Most drivers are looking for specific features when they shop for used vehicles. These features include appearance, power, dependability, safety and convenience. In some cases, they focus more on purchasing dependable, economical vehicles rather than pricey vehicles with fancy gadgets. If you fall into that category of drivers, then a practical, efficient vehicle is probably exactly what you want. If storage space and passenger room are also issues, then consider a used Daihatsu SUV. Daihatsu offers the Terios model with several different options, and the affordability and features may surprise you.

    Daihatsu Mini-SUV

In 1997, Daihatsu released a new model known as a mini-SUV. Daihatsu manufactures vehicles under the kei car category in Japan, working in conjunction with Toyota Motor Corporation on many vehicles, including the Daihatsu Terios. These cars are miniature vehicles specifically suited to the Japanese market because of the high taxes and fees on large vehicles in that country. Small cars, such as those in the Daihatsu lineup, are generally exempt from the parking restrictions imposed in Japan. Daihatsu designed the Terios to meet kei car regulations, and the SUV is less than 1 500 mm wide. It is also shorter than most SUVs, and you may notice the third set of side windows (the rear set) is much smaller than normal for an SUV.

    Daihatsu SUV Seating Capacity

Even with its smaller size, the Daihatsu Terios fits up to five passengers. Even more impressive, a recently released version of the Terios actually seats up to seven passengers. New kei car regulations allowed the manufacturers to add about 150 mm to a vehicle's width to produce that version. The new rule also gives passengers a bit more room. The SUV also has a storage area in the rear that measures 1 065 mm in length.

    Daihatsu SUV Engine

Daihatsu engines are generally small because the vehicles are so compact. A large engine is not necessary to drive these cars, and fuel efficiency is much better with small engines. Most Daihatsu drivers buy the vehicles for economy, rather than power.

    Daihatsu Terios SUV Engine Options

To create the Daihatsu Terios, the manufacturer combined the engine from its super-mini car, the Charade, with both four-wheel drive and constant two-wheel drive options. The original Terios features a 659 cc turbo I3 engine, but it quickly changed to an inline 4-cylinder engine. The 2014 Terios has a 1,3L 4-cylinder engine that runs on petrol. Fuel efficiency is about 7,8 litres per 100 kilometres, and the maximum speed of the vehicle is approximately 155 km/hour.

Daihatsu Terios 7-Seater SUV Engine Options

The Terios 7-seater has a slightly larger engine than the original Terios, although the stats are about the same for both. It features a 1,5L 4-cylinder engine and also runs on standard petrol. The fuel efficiency and maximum speed do not suffer much from the increased engine size. The vehicle also averages around 7 litres per 100 kilometres and about 155 km/hour maximum speed.

    Daihatsu Terios SUV Safety Features

Daihatsu does not include many safety features on its vehicles, although it does perform fairly well in crash tests. The newer Terios SUVs include airbags on most models, but the base trim levels only have driver and passenger front impact airbags. Higher trim levels may also include side impact airbags. Passengers most at risk during collisions, according to crash tests, are children, especially those under the age of three. Drivers and adult passengers in tests fared well in terms of head and torso injuries, but knee and leg injuries were more likely. Seat belts with pretensioners, force limiters and adjusters are standard features, and fog lamps are available on a few select models. Most Terios vehicles include anti-lock brake systems and stabilisers, but other safety features are generally absent.

Daihatsu Terios SUV Entertainment and Convenience Features

The 2014 Daihatsu Terios is not particularly fancy, but it does come with several entertainment and convenience features, including a dual air conditioning system, clock, front and rear window wipers, power door locks and power windows. The entertainment features include a complete sound system for your listening pleasure, and a CD player and AM/FM radio with six speakers are standard elements. Steering wheel mounted controls are on all the vehicles, and sun visors with mirrors and lights are sometimes available.

    Efficiency in a Compact Package

The Daihatsu Terios may not possess a lot of amenities, but it still offers a substantial number of choices when it comes to purchasing a used SUV. Start by determining whether you need the five-passenger or seven-passenger Terios and then choose other features that are important to you. You can find many different Daihatsu SUVs on the secondhand market.

Top Six Things to Consider When Purchasing a Used Daihatsu Van

Top Six Things to Consider When Purchasing a Used Daihatsu Van

The Daihatsu Hijet is the classic Daihatsu van. It is certainly not the most glamourous vehicle on the road, but drivers do not purchase it for its looks. Also available in a truck version, the Daihatsu Hijet offers convenience and efficiency for a low price. If you need a fuel efficient used vehicle with large storage capacity, the Daihatsu models offer an excellent value for your money.

Daihatsu Hijet Trucks vs. Daihatsu Hijet Vans

The original Daihatsu Hijet released in 1960 and was only available as a truck. However, due to regulations regarding the bed, the 1964 Daihatsu Hijet added a cabover to the rear of the vehicle. The full van version of the Daihatsu did not officially appear until 1972. Daihatsu eventually lengthened and widened the van with the release of the 1976 model. Since that time, the Daihatsu Hijet has not changed much in overall style. The company released both van and truck models through 2013. The 2014 model is only available as a van, as the company discontinued the truck version with the ninth generation of the Hijet. The truck for that model is a high-roofed version with an extended cab. The van is also high-roofed but completely enclosed.

    Daihatsu Hijet Seating Capacity

Both the truck and van versions of the Daihatsu Hijet come with seating for two passengers. They each have large storage areas with the truck version open, and the van version enclosed. The towing capacity of each is between 560 kilogrammes and 1 120 kilogrammes. The Hijet van is the best option for hauling items that are susceptible to the elements and damage. However, if you frequently haul large or messy items, you may want to purchase the truck model instead.

    Daihatsu Hijet Engine

Both the Daihatsu van and truck have the same engine. It features a 1,3L 4-cylinder inline engine that runs on petrol. The 64-horsepower engine produces 100 nm of torque, and the top speed is 130 kilometres per hour. The vehicles are fuel efficient, averaging 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres. The 1984 and newer versions of the Hijet offer either two-wheel or four-wheel drive, while older models only come in two-wheel drive models. Daihatsu also sold a turbocharged version in 1984.

    Daihatsu Hijet Safety Features

If you need a vehicle with extra safety features, the Hijet is probably not the best choice. The van and truck versions are both very basic on safety, although some models include basic airbags and anti-lock brakes.

    Special Daihatsu Hijet Features

The base model of the Daihatsu Hijet has a few standard features, including heated rear windows, a rear window wash and wipe system, front wipers and a low fuel light. Smokers appreciate the included ashtray and cigar lighter, but not all models have these features. Both vehicles only come with cloth seats. Sliding rear doors and a roof-hinged tailgate allow for easy loading and unloading on the van model. A radio, heater and fuel gauge are also standard equipment.

A few models are available in upgraded versions with additional features. Some offer a glass sunroof or a manual tilt/slide sunroof. If you want a customised vehicle, many models have metallic paint in various colours, and some have luggage racks. Older versions of the Hijet may include alterations to provide handicapped access at the rear of the van. These vehicles are rare, however.

    Special Hijet Versions

Daihatsu also released a few limited edition models of the Hijet. These models are rare on the used market compared to other Hijets, but you can find them with a bit of research.

    Daihatsu Hijet Gran Max

The Gran Max hit the market in Indonesia in 2007. This semicab version has wheels in front of the doors and is wider and longer than the regular Hijet. The engine is also slightly larger and comes in either 1,300 cc or 1,500 cc versions. Both minivan and pickup truck models are available.

    Hybrid Daihatsu Hijet

The hybrid Daihatsu Hijet released in 2002. This vehicle is a van hybrid that uses both an electric and petrol-powered 660 cc engine. It is not the same as a true hybrid, however. It has separate gasoline and electric components seated next to each other under the bonnetand is about 30 per cent more fuel efficient than the regular Daihatsu Hijet.

    Reliable and Economical Vehicles

If you want a stripped down, basic vehicle for hauling that is economical and functional, the Daihatsu Hijet is a good possibility. The van option is ideal for carrying furniture, tools and other items susceptible to the weather, and the truck model is a good alternative for hauling oversized loads. Some styles are rare on the secondhand market, but it is often possible to find a used Daihatsu van or truck to meet your needs.
