Wow, that didn't take long! Chery becomes a top 10 brand in South Africa

It looks like Chery's second-coming into the South African market is turning out to be fruitful, as the Chinese automaker became a top 10 brand during July.

Chery is not a foreign name to South African motorists. The automaker first started selling vehicles back in 2008 with the likes of the A5, QQ3, and Tiggo 3. More than a decade on, they've made giant strides from where they were and giving prospective buyers even more to choose from in the lucrative SUV segment.

The automaker clinched the feat eight months after it introduced its first SUV – the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro in November 2021 - and according to automotive business council, Naamsa, they sold 1 262 new Tiggo Pro models in July.

Based on model sales, the Tiggo 4 Pro is out in front where 689 units found new homes, followed by the Tiggo 7 Pro with 372 units and the flagship Tiggo 8 Pro with 201 units. Based on sales, both the 7 and 8 Pro now rank first in their respective segments. If making a statement is what they intended, then it's mission accomplished.

Jay Jay Botes, National Sales Manager of Chery South Africa, says: "We realise that South Africans are under significant economic pressure and that they need the best possible value for money when buying a vehicle. That is why we have put so much effort into creating our 1-million-kilometre mechanical warranty and our best-in-class list of luxury and safety specifications in every Tiggo Pro."
