Gone are the days when video games and gaming were considered the favourite pastime of social recluses. Today, and especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, gaming has reached greater levels of popularity among all age groups and social strata. Studies have proven that gamers who play video games, especially action-oriented ones such as Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty, are better at sensorimotor tasks with improved hand-eye coordination.

Gumtree outlines two studies that prove these benefits of gaming:
Study 1:
- This study was conducted by the graduate students at the University of Toronto in 2014.
- The study involved testing between 18 gamers (those who played for 2 hours, 3 times a week) and non-gamers.
- Both groups of people were asked to play a computer game that required them using a mouse to follow or track a square on the screen as it went around in random patterns.
- Over the course of the testing period, it was found that those who were gaming frequently were better at the task as their motor and sensory skills improved significantly.
- In 2007, Dr. James Rosser Jr. conducted a study on young surgeons who played action video games regularly.
- It was found that these medical students and surgical residents displayed greater performance on simulators that replicated surgeries such as laparoscopies.
- It was proved that these surgeons who played for more than 3 hours a week made 37% less errors and were 27% faster than their counterparts.
- It was also found that surgeons who played video games right before surgery made fewer errors, while completing the procedure faster too.
