Chery once used to grace South African roads with models that was large below par and was honed at buyers that wanted a cheaper than cheap runaround with minimal creature comforts.
In 2022, that tide has most certainly changed with the introduction of first the Tiggo 4 Pro and now the luxury-centric Tiggo 8 Pro range.
Starting off with what's under the bonnet - therein lies an award-winning turbocharged 1.6-litre unit with maximum outputs of 145kW and 290Nm, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the front wheels. Additionally, drivers can choose between Standard, Eco and Sport driving modes from behind the wheel.
The three-dimensional grille and full automatic' Tiger Eyes' matrix-LED headlights with DRLs is the major attraction on the outside. Also thrown in the mix is two chromed roof rails, a panoramic sunroof (available as standard on the Executive model), LED rear lights, illuminated threshold sills and 18-inch alloy wheels.
On the inside you'll find one of three screens - a 12.3-inch, 10.25-inch and 8-inch - that displays information to the driver like vehicle information, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and climate control functions, respectively. Executive models receive a third air conditioning system for the rearmost seats. All Tiggo 8 Pro models offer wireless charging, intelligent voice control and a SONY sound system with eight surround sound speakers as standard.
Luxury as standard
Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa, says: "In planning for the South African introduction of the Tiggo 8 Pro, we used the analogy of first-class travel. Once in first class, your every need is satisfied. There are no hidden costs, no surprise bills, and luxury is a given."
