Toyota sprinkles its popular Corolla Cross SUV with some GR treatment

Toyota's GR family has just a bit bigger with the Corolla Cross being the latest model to be adorned with the GR badge.

The locally-built crossover was in 2021 and became an instant hit amongst buyers, frequently topping the passenger-vehicle sales charts, while also being crowned as South African Car of the Year (SA COTY).

The Japanese brand's GR product hierarchy comprises four levels, namely

  • GR Parts - allows customers to inject their normal model variant with GR flavour
  • GR-Sport - offers cosmetic and dynamic handling enhancements, which is where the Corolla Cross slots in
  • GR performance - it is reserved for fully-fledged GR performance models like the GR86, GR Yaris and GR Supra
  • GRMN - represents the highest level of performance tuning

The Corolla Cross GR-S features three bi-tone colour options with black-roof treatment, black 18-inch alloy wheels, GR badging and GR-themed interior accents. Mechanically, the suspension and power steering module has been tweaked and works in conjunction with the 1.8-litre petrol engine, coupled to a seven-step CVT transmission.
