To Uber or not to Uber - Volkswagen's all-new Polo sedan is here!

Volkswagen is not stopping their model introduction in South Africa, and they've now added the new Polo sedan to the range. Since its local introduction in 2011, the model has sold 44 267 units.

Starting with the entry-level derivative, it comes standard with LED head and tail lights, 16-inch steel wheels (with wheel caps), App-Connect, a 7-inch touchscreen radio, and cruise control. For an extra R25 000 to R50 000 with both Life derivatives, you get keyless entry and start, a rearview camera, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, and App-Connect, power-adjustable and folding exterior mirrors, an eight-speaker system, climatronic air conditioning, front fog lamps, and cornering lights and 16-inch Scimitar alloy wheels.

The top-specced Life Tiptronic trim also comes with Hill Start Assist and shifting paddles behind the steering wheel. Occupants can now make use of 521-litres of boot space.

The safety package includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a multi-collision braking system, a tyre pressure monitoring, and Park Distance Control in the rear.

Unlike its hatchback derivative, where customers can choose from a range of optional extras, the only optional feature available for the sedan is the choice of five exterior colours; solid paint (Candy White) and four metallic colours (Wild Cherry Red, Carbon Steel Grey, Reflex Silver, and Rising Blue).

In terms of performance, the range is powered by an aspirated 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with figures of 81kW and 152Nm, mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic transmission. The German firm claims a fuel consumption figures of 6.2 and 6.5-litres/100km for the manual and Tiptronic versions, respectively.
